Upper Montclair
There are no designated dog parks in Weehawken, New Jersey, but just 11 miles away is the Brookdale Dog Park in Upper Montclair. The park is pretty new and it's a huge area where dogs can run around and exercise off-leash. It is fully fenced and has a small dog area and a large dog area. There is water available at the park and waste bags as well. Moreover, there is also agility equipment so your doggo can have the most pawesome time there. The park is mostly gravel and mulch, and the best thing about it it's the very large area where your dog can tire himself out easily.36
Battery Park City
Only 6 miles away from Weehawken is another dog park named Sirius Dog Run located in West Lower Manhattan, New York. You can get there by the Lincoln tunnel very easily, and your trip will be worth it for this gated small park. Named after one of the Rescue Labs that gave its life in the 9/11 search and rescue operations, this park offers a lot of fun activities for your pup, such as obstacles for playing, water availability and even a doggie pool. The pool is built-in, fills up in about 15 minutes, and then drains automatically. There are no waste bags, though, so you should bring your own. The park is asphalt, which can get hot on your pup's paws in the summer.24
Fort Hamilton
Around 16 miles away from Weehawken is another great dog park located in Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton neighborhood. Your doggo can get off their leash and run free at Dyker Beach Park. This fenced park has a secure entrance system and a grassy area. There is a separate area for small dogs and another one for large dogs. There terrain is mostly gravel, and water fountains are available here in the spring and summer months. The park is pretty large and has benches and picnic tables for the pet parents. There are waste bags provided in the park as well as waste stations.12
Central Park
Approximately 4.5 miles from Weehawken is the gorgeous Central Park in New York, which you just have to visit. Dogs must be on-leash here, but the park offers off-leash hours in 23 areas throughout the park. Before 9 AM and after 9 PM, your puppy can freely run around the designated areas. There are 15 dog water fountains in different parts of the park. The park also provides lots of trails and grassy areas. It's the perfect place for exercising and socializing your beloved pet. Because of the rich flora, the park is almost entirely shaded. You should bring your own poop bags, though, since they're not provided here.
Gerritsen Beach
If you need something different than a dog park and your pup loves to swim, you should visit the dog-friendly beach on Gerritsen Avenue in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn. The beach is on a local secret bay and there are no rules here! But there aren't any bathrooms here either, so keep that in mind. Bring water and waste bags with you to clean up after your pooch. The beach is free to use, and there's plenty of parking nearby. The beach is not easy to find, so you'll want to use the specific address: 3078 Gerritsen Ave. The water is pretty clean and there is a lot of beach space for running and playing fetch off-leash!
