West Mancos
West of the town center, Cottonwood Park is designated as an off-leash park for pups. The grassy area is kept cut short to keep out the weeds, and there are toys and some agility equipment to keep your pooch entertained. There are doggie waste bag dispensers and trash cans in the dog park, but you will need to refill water bottles near the restrooms. Families can also enjoy hiking the Mancos River Trail outside the park. The paved path is easy to walk, and your pooch needs to stay on his leash, but he will have a snifftastic time rolling around in the plants. There is a campground on site offering mostly primitive sites where you can pitch and tent and Fido can rest his head.

Jackson Lake
One of the main attractions for pups and their families is the Mancos State Park near the Mesa Verde National Park. The West Mancos trail meanders around the Jackson Gulch reservoir where pups and parents can spend some time fishing. You can walk the trail and enjoy the breeze and the shade trees while your pup sniffs and smells the plants and trees. There are camping sites in the Mancos State Park and you can even stay in one of the two yurts. You will need to bring your own water bottles and doggie waste bags to clean up after your pooch.

Mesa Verde
The Mesa Verde RV Resort in this Mancos neighborhood is a great campground for pups and their parents. The resort is close to the National Park and offers full and partial RV hookups in addition to a swimming pool. You and your pup can spend a few days hiking through the mountains and coming back to your tent or RV in the evening to enjoy a bonfire and free Wi-fi. There are clean bathrooms and plenty of open space where you can walk with Fido. As one of the more popular pup-friendly camping destinations, Fido can have a pawtastic time socializing with other dogs.

Cortez Park/ Denny Lake
Pups who need even more exercise and entertainment will not mind the 15-minute drive to the Cortez Dog Park on Main Street in Cortez. There is a large fenced area where pups can run off leash and shaded tables where pup parents can relax and chat with friends. You will need to bring your own water bowls and bottles, and you might find some doggie waste bags, but bring extra just in case. The dog park is near the Cortez/ Mesa Verde KOA campground so Fido will have plenty of pups to socialize with and have a barking good time.
Cortez Plaza
While you are in Cortez, stop by Centennial Park and enjoy a great picnic area with friends and their furry family members. The park features a wildlife pond with lots of ducks and geese, so you will need to keep Fido on his leash. There is a nice walking path where you and your pooch can get some exercise. Fill up your water bottles at the drinking fountain near the clean restrooms, and you will need to bring your own doggie waste bags to clean up after your pup. The park offers plenty of shade and a small playground where the kids can have some fun while you and Fido stroll through the area or relax on a bench.
