West Dolores
The Navajo Lake Trailhead, in the West Dolores neighborhood of Dolores, is a premier hiking destination for you and your pawtastic friend. There are nine miles of trails which meander to the top of Dolores Peak. This is a beautiful trail which offers panoramic views, but is rated as difficult, so make sure your pup is prepared for some extreme hiking. The elevation rises to 11,000 feet at the summit, therefore it is essential to pack plenty of water and food for both of you. You will be rewarded with a memorable experience and an outdoor adventure that's second to none.

Southwest Dolores
Visit the McPhee Overlook Trail located in the Southwest neighborhood of Dolores. This hiking trail begins here and runs for nine miles along the reservoir, directly into the San Juan National Forest. It is a multi-use trail that offers people and pups the ability to explore the forest on foot, horseback, or on a bicycle. You and your pawtastic pup can enjoy the great outdoors and view plenty of wildlife along its path. Suitable for all pup-abilities, this trail offers a great time for all. Be sure to keep Fido on leash throughout, and pack plenty of water and snacks.

Northwest Montezuma
If you are looking for a great spot to fish, look no further than the McPhee Reservoir, in the McPhee Recreation Area. Activities abound for some pawtastic time with your fur-ever friend. You can fish the day away while relaxing lakeside with Fido, or put in your boat and take your pup for a cruise. There are plenty of out-of-the-way places where your pup can swim as well. How about an overnighter? The park’s campsites are top-notch and offer pet-friendly stays. Restrooms are on site, but pack plenty of water.

Zetroc
Head to the Denny Lake Park, in the Zetroc neighborhood of the town of Cortez, 11 miles south of Dolores, for some great off-leash time for Fido. The Cortez Dog Park, located here, lets pups strut their stuff with their friends. There is water, bowls and toys provided for the dogs to play with. Afterwards, enjoy the park’s other amenities, such as a playground for the kiddies and a short hiking trail, suitable for all pup-fitness levels. The small fishing pond is open to youngsters to try their hand at catching dinner! Be sure to keep Fido on leash outside of the dog park.

Cortez
In the Cortez neighborhood of the town of Cortez, 11 miles south of Dolores, you and your pawtastic pup can enjoy two lovely parks together. Centennial Park offers a disc golf course, a kid’s playground, sports courts and picnic areas. There are hiking trails that meander throughout, and a wildlife pond perfect for doing some birdwatching. Or try the Cortez City Park which offers a playground, picnic tables and benches throughout. A stage offers pup-tastic summer events. Restrooms and water are provided at both. Afterwards, you can share a cone with Fido at dog-friendly Dairy Queen at their outdoor tables.
