City Center
The city center of Costa Mesa has plenty of recreational activities in the area, including ones for your dog. The Costa Mesa Bark Park has separate fenced-in, off-leash areas for big dogs and small dogs. There are plenty of chairs and benches for you to sit, and doggie bags and water are provided. There is a local PetSmart with a training facility as well as a PETCO. Numerous restaurants im the area are dog-friendly. These include The Golden Truffle, Cucina Roma and the Side Street Café. For doggie dentals, Qualified Pet Dental is a local service that offers on-site professional dental cleanings!

East Costa Mesa
East Costa Mesa offers dog owners quick access to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Reserve. This 1,000 acre reserve surrounds the Ecological Reserve, which is considered one of the best places in Orange Country to view wildlife. Dogs are always welcome, but the rules of the reserve require owners to keep them on leash and clean up after them. There are plenty of services in the neighborhood as well, including Tail’s Pace (local dog walking and pet sitting business), Bark Bath Self-Serve Dog Wash, and Tracie’s Pet Service. There are also several Air BnB dog friendly lodging options in the neighborhood for out of towners.

West Costa Mesa
The Westside Costa Mesa neighborhood is a few blocks from Canyon Park, which borders the expansive Talbert Regional Park. Canyon Park covers 1.45 acres and provides walking trails, exercise areas, a greenbelt, tennis, baseball, volleyball, basketball courts and a beautiful fountain that can be enjoyed by pups that are leashed. Bordering Canyon Park is Talbert Regional Park, with 91.5 acres located in North Talbert, and the remaining 88.5 acres in South Talbert. This beautiful area is separated into six different plant zones, including Alluvial Woodland and Wetland Zones that can be enjoyed by doggies that are cleaned up after and kept on leash.

Fountain Valley
Seven miles from Central Costa Mesa is the Fountain Valley neighborhood, which has tons of activities and services catering to dogs. Mile Square Regional Park has beautiful lakes and trails to enjoy. The park also hosts many events like Summer Concert in the Park, Bark for Life, and Howling Halloween in the Park. The Santa Ana River Trail is also nearby and offers a lovely walking path along the Santa Ana River that can be enjoyed by you and your on-leash pup! For local emergencies, the well-reviewed Surf City Pet Hospital is nearby, located just south on Brookhurst Street.

Just 15 minutes north of Costa Mesa’s city center, the area of South Coast provides residents and visitors with dog companions access to numerous neighborhood parks. Carl Thornton Park has a gorgeous lake with expansive walking trails. The entire area has plenty of shopping, dining, nightlife and entertainment options. Darya, In-N-Out Burger, and Old Vine Café are local restaurants that allow pooches on their patios, and Westin South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa Marriott, and Oakwood Costa Mesa are lodgings that are dog friendly. There is also a local PetSmart located in Bristol Plaza along with tons of other shopping outlets.
