Wag! Walkers know Prestonwood on the Park
Prestonwood on the Park is a community of single-family
homes in an affluent area in the extreme northern section of Dallas. Most of
the homes here come with a swimming pool and large yards. There are plenty of
restaurants to choose from in the area serving up a tasty blend of international
and local cuisine for you to sample. Along with this, there dog parks and pet
supply stores within driving distance. The community also boasts its own park with a small lake at one end.
As you can imagine, summers here are a little on the warm side with temperatures
in the mid-to-upper-90s. The area does receive a fair amount of rain matching
the national average of 39 inches per year. Winters can be a bit on the chilly side
with January lows in the 30s. In any given year, you might see as much as
an inch of snow.
What is the terrain like in Prestonwood on the Park?
Prestonwood on the Park is a typical suburban neighborhood with wide streets packed full of affluent
homes, tree-lined sidewalks, and a wide strip of green wandering all along the east
side of Meandering Way. Here, you and Fido will find a walking trail in the
Preston Ridge Trail Park that runs for miles.
If you plan to walk around the community
sticking to the sidewalks, you will need to give Fido plenty of time for their paws to toughen up enough to handle the constant walking on paved surfaces. The
pavement can act like very coarse sandpaper. Start out walking short
distances and slowly start adding in more distance over time. Keep in mind that when the ambient temperature hits the mid-90s, the sidewalks
are likely to be in the neighborhood of 145°F which is hot enough to cause some pretty distressing burns or other injuries to your pooch's delicate paws.
How many greenways are there in Prestonwood on the Park?
The only green space within the community is Arapaho Park where you will find 10.4 acres of trees,
grass, and a lake in the middle. The park features plenty of benches under
shade trees. There are plenty of picnic tables, a playground for the kids, pet waste stations, and acres of grass for the two of you to get
in some good old-fashioned exercise.
Next door is the Preston Ridge Trail that
converted 5.8 miles of electrical right-of-way provided by Oncor into a beautiful
corridor trail. This paved trail measures 12 feet across and wanders through numerous
neighborhoods on its way from Arbor Oaks to Davenport. While you and Fido may
not be up to walking the whole trail at first, in time, you will be taking on the
whole trail and looking for more
areas to go walking, including Fretz Park, where there are numerous sports fields
to enjoy as long as you keep Fido on a leash.
