Wag! Walkers know Ashton Woodenbridge
The Gallery at Market East is actually the name of the mall on Market Street that has been undergoing
a complete makeover and is expected to be filled
with high-end retailers like Prada, Coach, and Gucci. The area is filled with high-rise apartments buildings, including
One Liberty Place, which used to be the city's tallest building. Undergoing renovation
has not added any greenways to the neighborhood.
There are plenty of restaurants
to check out in the area serving up an international smorgasbord of dishes. On
top of this, there are several pet supply stores and groomers. Dog-friendly parks are a different story. You will need a car if you want to find them. There are few small parks you
can take your pup for a little romp on the grass nearby. Summers are gorgeous with
temperatures in the 80s, but winters can be harsh with temperatures well below freezing for weeks at a time.
What is the terrain like in Ashton Woodenbridge?
We are talking about the center of the city here, so as you might
expect, there is plenty of pavement around. Living here with a dog can be challenging,
but as long as you don't mind pounding the pavement, the two of you can get plenty
of exercise. You just need to put your thinking cap on.
How many blocks are there in the Market East district? Not sure? Why not take
Fido out and do a little exploring? You can take different blocks, go different directions, and even head over
to the Schuylkill River and take the trail running along the bank for miles up and
down the bank. The most important thing to remember
is that, since you are taking your pup walking
on pavement, you need to give their paw pads time to toughen up before
you set out to explore the area unless
you want them to end up with really sore feet.
How many greenways are there in Ashton Woodenbridge?
There are several green spaces in the Market East area. Most
of them allow you to take Fido for a walk in them. Be sure you always have them on a leash and that you carry plenty of waste bags with you as no one wants to
step in one of Fido's little surprises.
The only problem is that these parks
are more for people than they are for dogs. A much better choice would be to take
Fido over to the Penn's Landing Dog Park. This park offers a great view of the
river, two separate areas for large and small dogs, watering stations for your
furry friend, and benches in the shade for you to relax on while Fido goes
running around. It's a great place
to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, despite the fact that you
are only across the street from it.
