Wag! Walkers know Oriole Park
The community of Oak Park surrounds the 18-acre park of the same name.
This is a good neighborhood to raise a family, complete with your
family dog. It's also a nice place to retire with a wide selection of
single-family homes to choose from. The streets are lined with sidewalks that
have wide grassy berms for you and Howie to walk along, safe from traffic. The nearest
park is in the middle of the community and offers numerous baseball fields,
tennis courts, a playground, and more. There is one shopping center in the
southeast corner and pet supply stores within driving distance. Thanks to
plenty of tall trees lining the streets and filling the backyards, the
community has a nice suburban feel to it.
Summers here hover in the low 80s and winters stay below freezing for weeks at a time, so be sure you have your winter gear ready before the first snows
arrive.
What is the terrain like in Oriole Park?
The terrain here is quite suburban in nature with mostly
level ground, plenty of sidewalks to hike along, and an 18-acre park in the
middle. With so much flat terrain, you might think it would be hard to get in
enough valuable exercise with Howie. It is true that walking on level ground
does not exactly strain your pup's muscles, yet there is
more to walking than conquering challenging trails.
Instead of looking at flat terrain and deciding it won't do for your daily
walks, look at it as "challenge accepted." Make the
most of the terrain you have by going for distance! It's really not that hard, all you have to
do is start out with a small number of blocks and as the two of you get used to
your walks, start adding in a block or two at a time until you can walk around
most of the neighborhood without feeling worn out.
How many greenways are there in Oriole Park?
With Oak Park, finding a green space for you and Howie to
play in is just a matter of going to the middle of the community to the neighborhood's namesake. The park covers 18 acres and, beyond having
numerous athletic fields, offers a paved walking trail for you and Howie to stroll
around on. The park also offers a playground and
splash pool for the kids to enjoy all summer long.
If you want a place for Howie to be able to
play off-leash, Norwood Park on N. Natoma Dr is the place to
go. This fenced-in dog park offers room to play, fresh water bowls, and plenty
of bags to clean up any messes your pup may leave behind. The only problem with this
park is that the entire park is open to all breeds, both large and small, so
you do have to keep an eye on smaller pups.
