Wag! Walkers know Hollywood Park
Hollywood Park is a mostly residential area of single-family
homes, vintage apartment buildings, and condos. The area offers a nice quiet
place to live in a suburban setting while still being within commuting distance
of downtown. There are several parks in the area including the community's namesake
park. The neighborhood boasts a town hall for meetings and live theater performances. There are several
tasty restaurants in the area worth trying, but if you need pet supplies, you
will have to drive down into North Mayfair. The main streets all
have wide sidewalks for you to stroll along and wide grass berms.
Be sure you carry a bag to clean up any messes.
You can expect winters to be harsh and not very walk-friendly
with temperatures below freezing for weeks and plenty of snow. Summers are warm
and dry with temperatures in the low 80s which is perfect for taking long walks in the evening.
What is the terrain like in Hollywood Park?
If ever you needed a pseudonym for the word "flat" to describe
terrain, then "Hollywood Park" would be the one to use. The ground
here is about as flat as it comes, making for what could be very boring daily walks,
but only if you let it. The trick to working with terrain like this is being creative
and planning your walking routes carefully. When you have no hills to work with,
the only other option you have is to make
use of the many blocks of housing to build stamina and endurance.
Achieving this
is easy! Start out with short walks to give your pup's paws time to grow a thick
layer of callus. Then start adding in extra
distance, one block at a time. Once you have achieved your desired distance,
you can always increase the speed of your walks all the way up until both of you
are jogging along happily building muscles and burning calories.
How many greenways are there in Hollywood Park?
Living in Hollywood Park gives you access to plenty of green
space in the form of three different parks. The first is in the northeast corner
and is the community's namesake park. Hollywood Park contains four basketball
courts, a tennis court, a pair of softball fields, a playground, a spray pool,
and plenty of grass. But you will need to
keep them on a leash as this is not an off-leash park.
Along the entire east side of the community
is Legion Park which contains a section of the North Shore Channel Trail running
for 6.5 miles from the shore of Lake Michigan down into the city. This is a great place to take long walks where there is plenty of grass and shade trees.
On the
west side of town is the North Park Village Nature Center and Peterson Park. There are plenty of trails to stroll along, trees for shade, and grass
to enjoy.
