Wag! Walkers know Towering Oaks
Towering Oaks is community comprised of duplexes off of Spruce
Creek Road and close to the Port Orange Business Park. Having a home here puts you in
a centralized location for work, the I-95 interchange on Dunlawton Avenue, and the Dunlawton Bridge
over to the beach.
It also puts you close to the many businesses along Dunlawton
Avenue. These include a Publix grocery store
where you can stock your pantry and pick up food for the four-legged member of
your family. There are more restaurants to choose from between those at the junction of
Dunlawton Avenue and South Nova Road and those at the intersection
of Dunlawton and I-95 to let you eat at a different restaurant almost every
night of the month.
There are several parks in the area to
go walking in, a beach nearby, a nature preserve, and a
wildlife management area that covers over 30,000 acres to spend hours of your
free time in.
What is the terrain like in Towering Oaks?
While the community itself is not the busiest in town, Spruce
Creek Road tends to be bustling all day long with the business park to the north.
During rush hours, most of the roads around here tend to be hectic, but once it dies down, you can take your dog safely out for walks without having to worry
about too many cars.
Be aware that this is a family area, which means kids and school
buses. This is not always the best combination for walking your dog. But if you must,
be sure you use a short leash to help maintain tighter control. Thankfully, there are sidewalks running through the community
to walk on and to keep the two of you off the roads. The only thing missing is shade
trees to help protect you from the sun during the summer months or
from the winter rains.
How many greenways are there in Towering Oaks?
Directly to the north,
there is a small patch of woods with a few trails running through it for you
and your dog to wander around in. If you
prefer a park, there are two directly to
the south. The first is Buschman Park which is a public recreation area with a small
lake. The lake has a boardwalk, pavilion, and several trails for you and your
dog to take long walks on. There is also plenty
of grass for both of you to play around on.
On the east side of the lake is the Margaret Buschman
Parcel, a wide swath of woods buffering this picturesque family park from the industrial
park next door. It's a wonderful place to
bring the whole family, including Fido, for a day
out in the fresh air and sunshine. Pack a picnic, bring the tennis ball, and spend
the day out in nature!
