Wag! Walkers know Sugarmill
The homes of Sugarmill sit between Nixon Lane and Herbert Street, close
to Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens, the home of a 19th Century plantation. The houses
here are slightly upscale and laid out along a "U"
shaped road. There is a lake in the middle
of the community for you and your dog to enjoy and sidewalks to make good use of.
Living here puts you close to South Nova Road, one of the
busier north-south roads through town. Along this road, you will find a number of stores and restaurants to check out and, if you follow this road to the south,
it will take you to Dunlawton Avenue. Here, you will find the bulk of the shopping to
be found in town.
There are a number of
green spaces nearby, some within walking distance and others you must drive to. Luckily, you will find the journey to be more than worth the effort as they all
have a lot to offer you and your pup.
What is the terrain like in Sugarmill?
Within the community, you will find the entire area well-kept
and peaceful. With only a small number of houses, you won't be dealing with the
massive rush hour traffic issues that some
neighborhoods have. This means that the traffic in this area is minimal and should not present
a problem when taking your dog out for a walk!
The ground here is flat and has little to offer in the way of
a challenge on its own. Luckily, there are plenty of
residential blocks for the two of you to enjoy walking around. The neighbors around
here are a friendly lot and you are just
as likely to spend as much time chatting with them as you will walking your dog, if you aren't careful. The good news is that there is plenty of shade here to keep
you and your dog cooled down in the summer sun!
How many greenways are there in Sugarmill?
Right next door is the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens, along with
the ruins of the 19th Century plantation that once occupied the space. In this area, there
are plenty of carefully maintained botanical gardens to enjoy and nature trails
to hike along.
To the north and within walking distance is Reed Canal Park.
This is an
amazing park that sits in the middle of the border between South
Daytona and Port Orange. It offers a large area of woods to
explore, a lake to hike around, and a vast area of grass where you and your dog can run
and play.
Ten minutes to the east will take you to
the beach. You can drive your car on the sand and park it. From here, the two
of you can hike for as many miles as you can handle. With varied terrain, warm coastal waters, and plenty of sights to see, the beach offers a great opportunity to get out and about!
