Wag! Walkers know Madeline Heights
Madeline Heights is a small family neighborhood of single-family
homes close to South Nova Road and at the northern edge of Port Orange. The houses
spaced apart on larger lots give everyone more room to enjoy life. The community
sits on Hudson Lane and Winchester Road in an "L" shape which helps
provide you and your dog with a safer place to walk.
While living here does provide you with a certain amount of
privacy and tranquility, it doesn't mean you are far from the essential amenities
like grocery stores, places to buy pet supplies, and a selection of tasty
places to eat. Between the strip malls at the corner of South Nova Road and Dunlawton
Avenue, you should be able to
find just about anything you are likely to need.
You're also within driving
distance of the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area and the beaches along the
Atlantic coast where the two of you can hike for miles together.
What is the terrain like in Madeline Heights?
The terrain out here is flat and only partially developed around
the community as you might expect, living
this close to South Nova Road. Also known as SR-5A, this road is a major north-south
thoroughfare running from the tip of Ormond Beach all the way to the southern
tip of New Smyrna Beach and beyond. It is a major commuter route that is
exceptionally busy during morning and evening rush hours.
Madeline Heights sits off McDonald Road, which, unfortunately, happens to be a major feed road from the many communities in the surrounding area. To keep yourself and your
dog safe, be sure you stay off the main roads while walking and use a short leash
for better control and safety. On weekdays during the school year, you will
also be dealing with plenty of school buses running the kids back and forth to Sugar
Mill Elementary School.
How many greenways are there in Madeline Heights?
There are several large areas of undeveloped land around the
neighborhood where you and your dog might be able to go for walks. The nearest "park"
is the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens. Trails run through the carefully maintained
botanical gardens and there are plenty of shade trees to help keep the sun at bay
while you enjoy the area.
Five minutes to the north is Reed Canal Park, a large grassy area with a lake. Here, you and your pup can enjoy walking and playing in the vast
open fields or hiking around the water. But, if you want a great workout where
you can enjoy plenty of fresh salt air, sunshine, and surf, then you are only a
fifteen-minute drive to the beaches of Daytona Beach Shores and Wilbur-by-the-Sea.
The beaches offer miles of sand to walk on and, of course, the warm waters of the Atlantic to
swim in and cool down after your long walk together.
