Wag! Walkers know ElizabeBunch Grant
The Elizabeth Bunch Grant community stretches from the
Halifax River all the way west to the Spruce Creek Road and the Port Orange
Wastewater Treatment Facility. Parts of this neighborhood are residential while
others are commercial. The area also straddles US-1, one of the
busiest north-south highways running along the east coast. Most of the houses
here are single-family units with a few duplexes added into the mix.
The entire community sits two blocks from Dunlawton Avenue, the
main east-west highway and the central shopping district. Along both sides of this
vital highway,
you will find a large selection of big-box
retailers, pet supply stores, and strip malls. For those of
you who like to eat out, many of the best restaurants in town can
be found here.
There is a large green
space on the north side of Oak Street where you and your dog can play. The beach is less than ten minutes to the east and there are several other parks and
nature preserves in the area.
What is the terrain like in ElizabeBunch Grant?
Straddling US-1 and with a large number of businesses in the
area, you should expect to see a lot of traffic during the day, especially during rush hour. With so
many families living here, the school buses work their magic in the mornings
and afternoons. Beyond these times, and as long as you take your dog walking in
the residential neighborhoods, traffic should not be an issue.
The terrain here is mostly flat, meaning you and your dog
will have to substitute distance for the lack of hills to help make your walks
more challenging. Those who live on the east side of the highway have access to
the large grass walkway running along the Halifax River on the other side of Riverside
Drive. This is a safe place to go for walks and
you have the added pleasure of watching the boats cruising by on the river!
How many greenways are there in ElizabeBunch Grant?
The nearest green space on the west side of the highway is
the vast empty field on the west side of
the FEC railroad tracks. Here, you and your dog can play in the wide-open areas
of grass, hang out under the shade trees, and take a hike around the lake. Those
who live on the east side of the highway
have access to the riverside walkway.
If you hop in the car with your dog, you can be driving on
the beach within ten minutes. The coast offers miles
of sand and surf to hike along and an opportunity to cool off in the water when things
get too hot. Be sure you get here early as the area tends to become crowded and finding a place to park can be
challenging.
The only fenced-in dog park in town is ten minutes to the south
on Spruce Creek Road. The Seemore Memorial Dog Park covers one full-acre and is divided into three separate areas for pups of all sorts.
