Wag! Walkers know Carlton Place
Located between bustling US-1 and South Ridgewood Avenue, Carlton
Place is a small family neighborhood with
a blend of older and newer homes. Living here puts you just a few blocks from
Dunlawton Avenue. You can use this road to take you to some of the best shopping outlets and restaurants in town or over to the beach where you can find plenty of touristy shops and even more restaurants.
There are a few parks in the area,
but the only one you can really walk to is the Father Smith Complex. Luckily, you and your dog can be on the beach in five
minutes unless the traffic is particularly heavy.
For those of you who work further afield,
Dunlawton will take you all the way out to the I-95 interchange from which
you can commute north to places like Daytona, St. Augustine, and even Jacksonville. I-95 will take you to the Cape and
the Air Force base located there.
What is the terrain like in Carlton Place?
Unfortunately, no matter how you
look at it, this is a busy part of town. Not only does Carlton Place run
perpendicular to US-1, but it's only a few blocks from Dunlawton. The traffic on these two major roads is steady from early in the morning until late at night.
The traffic gets even worse during
the morning and evening rush hours and, while it might not have a major impact on Carlton Place itself, definitely impacts the neighborhood with
excessive noise and extra traffic cutting through.
Instead of trying to take your pooch for walks along one of the busiest roads
in town, you may find yourselves far better off using the wide strip of grass
on the other side of Halifax Drive. The grass
is a lot more pleasant to walk on and you are safe from the traffic. This grassy
area runs for miles in either direction, allowing both of you to enjoy walking along
the Halifax River.
How many greenways are there in Carlton Place?
At the Port Orange Adult Center,
the Father Smith Complex offers a large baseball field for the two of you to play
on. However, this is the only green space
within walking distance beyond the grassy area along the riverbank. For anything
more than this, a trip in the car is in
order.
A five-minute drive will take you over
the river and to the beach where you can drive and park your car on the sand. Taking a long walk on the sand offers you the
opportunity to give your legs an
amazing workout in the soft, dry sand. When you finally reach the point
at which you need to turn around, you can take a quick break to have a swim! It's a great
way for both of you to cool off. Then hike back to the car on the firm, wet sand for an easier journey.
