Wag! Walkers know Bennetts Hammock
Bennetts Hammock is an area that consists mostly of woods
with a lake in the center. There are a few houses within the boundaries of this
neighborhood and several densely populated housing areas surrounding it. The homes
within and nearby are a mixture of single-family
residences to the north, east, and west. To
the south is a large mobile home community. All of this sits right along Herbert Street.
South Nova Road will take you south to Dunlawton Avenue, the main east-west
highway in town. You can use it to take
your family over the river and straight out onto the beach, or for your early morning
commute on I-95. This highway is also home to the central shopping district in
town. From mom and pop stores in strip malls to big box stores like Walmart and
Publix, this area is where you can find just about everything you could want or need.
What is the terrain like in Bennetts Hammock?
Like most residential areas of Port Orange or any other large town, traffic gets heavy twice a day: during the morning
rush hour as everyone heads off to work and in the evening when they
all head home again. As a family-friendly neighborhood, you will also have to
deal with school buses running around picking up the kids or dropping them off.
You'll find no confusing streets or variations of terrain in this area as it is small and consists of just one roadway! Pups of all mobility and experience levels will be able to navigate the area without issue. There will be decidedly less shade closer to the houses, however, when compared to the area that designates the border of the woodlands. Keep some water with you when you travel and don't spend too long out in the sun!
Old Hammock Road is the only main street in this area with Herbert Street being your key to heading out of the community.
How many greenways are there in Bennetts Hammock?
Beyond the expanse of woods and lake in the middle of the community,
you are only a three-minute drive from Reed Canal Park. The park consists of a vast
area of grass where you and your pooch can run around and play together, a lake
to stroll around, and a sizeable area of woods you can both explore.
If you are looking for somewhere to take long walks together,
why not head over to the beach? It's only a ten to fifteen minute drive over the Dunlawton Avenue bridge. The road takes you directly onto the sand where you can park your car and go as far in either direction as either
of you can handle. Be sure you keep in mind that you have to walk back from
your furthest point, so don't go too far! The last thing you want
is to go so far you or your dog aren't able to make the trip back.
