Wag! Walkers know Ashton Lakes
Ashton Lakes is a carefully laid out community nestled
between I-95 and South Williamson Boulevard across the street from the Cypress Head Golf Course. The Spruce Creek Airport will also be one of your neighbors, but it's only meant for personal aircraft. There are taxiways running through part of the community as many people have hangar-sized garages.
The central part of town is only a few minutes to the north. Here, you should be able to find just about everything you need.
There are multiple grocery stores, pet supply stores to keep your pooch well-fed,
bars, and a fabulous selection of restaurants for you and
your family to choose from.
For those who love the beach, it’s only a twenty-minute drive
north on I-95. Once you get there, the two of you can
hike for miles along the sand enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Try to go early before it gets too packed with vistors!
What is the terrain like in Ashton Lakes?
For dog walkers, this
could almost be described as the perfect place
for your daily walks. All of the streets here are
lined on both sides with sidewalks and grass berms. This way you can stick
to the pavement while your pup gets to cool their feet in the grass as you hike
along. Ashton Lakes is a single-family home community with plenty of room to
stretch your legs and, as the name tells
you, there are several lakes for you to walk around.
As a family neighborhood, you should expect to see moderate
amounts of traffic during the usual rush hours. You will also have to try and schedule
your strolls together at times when the school buses are not running their routes
as they tend to add to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. For your safety
and that of your dog, you should use a short leash that gives you more control when
walking around the neighborhoods.
How many greenways are there in Ashton Lakes?
To the east of the neighborhood,
there is a large area of woods cushioning you from I-95 and the noise it creates.
However, you can also take your dog for walks on the many trails running through
the trees. The shade can make your walks
in the summer a little more tolerable.
On the other side of I-95 is the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve
and MTB Trailhead. The trail takes you to the Victory Path Trail. It's unpaved
and makes an excellent place for you and your dog to go for long walks. Be
aware that you will be sharing the trail with others out walking their dogs, hikers,
and cyclists.
Although you live across from the vast green space called
Cypress Head Golf Course and the fairways look might inviting, you and your dog
are not permitted on the course. After all, no one wants to take their next shot from greens that have muddy paw prints everywhere!
