Wag! Walkers know Warmacks
Warmacks is mixed
community with some residences, a self-storage business, and a large construction
company. The neighborhood sits on the FEC tracks to the west and Turnbull Street to
the east. Those with houses here enjoy large yards and areas of woods that give
you a semi-rural feel while still living close to the center of town. However,
despite the setting, you are only a two-minute
drive from the highway and the freeway which are busier areas of town.
Along the highway are numerous places to eat and plenty of
places to shop including grocery stores, gas stations, and places to buy pet
supplies. A1A also takes you to the causeways going over the Indian River North
to the beach and the waterfront. There
are several nature preserves and parks in the area where you and your dog can
go for long hikes in the woods out of the glare of the Florida summer sun.
What is the terrain like in Warmacks?
While semi-rural, the Warmacks
neighborhood tends to see a fair amount of traffic thanks to the U-Haul rental
store and storage on Turnbull Bay Road. Then there is the construction business
on Fremont Street. Thankfully, most of the traffic occurs during business hours, meaning
that the best times to take your dog out for walks will be before the morning rush
hour and after the evening one.
There are a few sidewalks in the area for the two of you to
walk on, but for the most part, you and
your dog will be walking on the road itself. Be sure you wear light-colored clothing
to help motorists see you at night in order to avoid accidents. If you walk to the
north on Turnbull Street, there is a small park and a large lake the two of you can
add into your walks along with woods you can use to stay out of the sun.
How many greenways are there in Warmacks?
Turnbull Street Park and the lake at the north end of Turnbull
Street are the nearest green spaces for you and your dog to play in, but they are relatively
small. A little further north on A1A will take you to several entrances into the
Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. The preserve covers 1,637 acres of swamps
and woods. There are several trails running
through the preserve for the two of you to hike along, some of which take
you all the way to Rose Bay if you're up to the six-mile round trip.
On the other side of the nearest causeway is the beach with
more miles of sand to walk on than you and your pup could possibly cover in a single day. But walking on the sand is an
excellent form of exercise for the two of you. The best time to visit is early in the morning before it gets too busy.
