Wag! Walkers know Turnbull Bay Park
Turnbull Bay Park is an exclusive community of substantial
homes on the east shore of Turnbull Bay and bordering on the southern edge of Spruce
Creek Preserve. One of the best things of living here besides the private docks
on the bay must be the lack of crowds and
traffic. While you are close to the airport, you are at least a ten to fifteen minute drive from essentials such as grocery
stores, gas stations, dog parks, and of course pet supply stores.
If you go a little further afield, you can be at the beach, Smyrna Dunes Park, or at your choice of some of the finest restaurants and fast-food joints in the
area. It might take you fifteen to twenty minutes to get to the coast, but you and
your dog are sure to enjoy the fresh salt air and surf. With summer
temperatures in the 90s, having a chance to cool off is a great way to end a long walk on the
beach.
What is the terrain like in Turnbull Bay Park?
This area is quiet and flat with the only traffic you are likely to encounter
being residents and the mail carrier. From few cars to even fewer
people, you can turn your walks with your pooch into a form of walking meditation where you can let all the stresses of everyday life flow out into to cosmos.
The roads and paths here are buried deep in the shade,
making it much easier for you to continue going for walks all year
long. Of course,
if you want more room to stretch your legs and log in a few miles of hiking,
there is the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve.
In the preserve, you and your dog will find three miles of
nature trails to hike along. The trails take you past a 15-foot tall
observation tower that lets you see for miles in every direction. Once you've had
a look around, you can finish your walk by going all the way to Rosebay and back.
How many greenways are there in Turnbull Bay Park?
Beyond the Spruce Creek Preserve, there are several other large
green spaces for the two of you to explore. For example, if your dog likes to go
for rides on the water, you can always take them for canoe rides throughout the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. Not only is there plenty
of water to paddle around on, but there are plenty of spits of land to explore and
a family of dolphins who have made their
homes here.
A little further to the east is the beach with miles of sand for the two of you to walk, jog, or run on. As an added bonus, there is plenty of refreshing water for the two of
you to cool off in after your walks. The best time of day to hit the
beach together is in the early morning
hours when very few people are around and before the temperatures are too high and unbearable.
