Wag! Walkers know The Bryan
The Bryan is a tiny pocket neighborhood of single-family homes
close to the Chisholm Elementary School. While the area is far enough from the freeway to avoid dealing with the noise and heavy traffic, it's still close enough
to be able to access the various amenities you need on a regular basis. These might
include grocery stores, pet supply stores, bars, gas stations, and other services.
Living here also puts you close to a great selection of
green spaces including parks, nature and aquatic preserves, and, of course, the
beach. The Bryan is centrally located, yet
rather than giving you the feeling of living in an urban setting, you feel more
like you live out in suburbia.
One thing that many find odd about living here is that, despite the fact many people live
very close or within the several golf courses in town, they are not open for
walking dogs due to the course regulations.
What is the terrain like in The Bryan?
Despite being a relatively quiet neighborhood, there are four
times of the day when you can count on there being traffic on the roads around your
home. The first two are the morning and evening rush hours as people head off
to work or back home at the end of the day. The other two are when the many school
buses that feed the elementary school on a daily basis head out during the school year.
During the early morning walk to school and
afternoon walk home, you can expect the sidewalks and streets around you to be teeming
with kids. This may not be the best times
of day to take your dog for a walk, but if you must, be sure you use a short
leash. The
nice thing is that the streets are lined with
plenty of shade trees to help both of you stay a little cooler during your walks
under the scorching summer sun.
How many greenways are there in The Bryan?
The closest park to your home is Pettis Park at the corner
of Mary Avenue and Milford Place. This is a small
neighborhood park, but it does have basketball and tennis courts as well as a
large area of grass the two of you can play on. However, a little way to the north
lies the 1,637 acres that comprise the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. This
nature preserve provides a home to hundreds of animals. It is
also home to miles of nature trails you and your dog can hike along all the way
to Rose Bay and back.
If sand is more to your tastes, it will take you less than
ten minutes to cross the South Causeway to get to the beach. The sands make a great place to walk and the water provides opportunities for both of you to go for a nice cool swim after your walk.
