Wag! Walkers know Sugar Mill Trails East
Sugar Mill Trails East is a subdivision of single-family
homes that are an extension of the Sugar Mills Golf Course communities just off
Pioneer Trail. It's a small community of neat
homes in a cul-de-sac environment. The area sports a small lake in the middle
of the community and wide-open fields to
the east of it. For those of you who like to golf, the course offers three different
sets of nine holes for a total of twenty-seven holes that let you create three unique courses to play through!
Living here puts you ten minutes from the central part of
town where you can find all the amenities you are likely to need, including pet
supply stores, grocery stores, and lots of amazing restaurants to choose from.
You are also only a twenty-minute drive from the beach! The
beach makes a great place to take your dog out for long walks in the early mornings
while the air is still cool.
What is the terrain like in Sugar Mill Trails East?
One of the many benefits of living in Sugar Mill Trails East
is the relative peace and quiet. With
only one road in and out, traffic is typically slow with the exception of rush hours and while the school buses are
running. This makes for excellent dog walking
conditions when combined with the fact that
the streets have sidewalks and all end in cul-de-sacs. The ground itself is
relatively flat and has very little in the way of challenge to add to your walks.
While this might be great for an older dog with arthritis,
it can be pretty dull for an active dog. However,
a short walk north along Sugar Mill Drive will take you into the woods of Daugherty's
Todd Grant. Here, the two of you can enjoy taking walks on the trails running through the woods. It makes a nice change of pace and an excellent way to get out of the direct
sunlight on hot summer days.
How many greenways are there in Sugar Mill Trails East?
Beyond the woods in Daugherty's
Todd Grant, there is a vast wooded area between Pioneer Trail and I-95 with
plenty of shady trails for you to walk your dog on. Depending on how far the
two of you are prepared to walk, there are two large lakes and several smaller ones
to search for. It's an excellent way for the two of you spend time
together out in the fresh air.
If you prefer to take your dog to a park where they can run
free and play with other dogs, there is the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park which is less
than ten minutes to the south. The park has two larger fenced in areas, one for
large and one for smaller pups. Each of these sections has a watering station so
your pooch won't become dehydrated and shaded picnic tables for you to sit at
while your dog goes off and plays!
