Wag! Walkers know Sugar Mill
Sugar Mill is a single-family
home community in the Sugar Mills Golf Course. Most of the homes here are
moderate in size and offer larger yards and plenty of shade trees. This is a nice quiet place to live with little
in the way of traffic beyond rush hours
in the morning and afternoon. However, you do pay for the peace and quiet with a lack of amenities in the
immediate vicinity.
This being said, you are no more than a fifteen to twenty-minute
drive from your doorstep to just about anything you need from fast-food to surfboards and pet food for your
favorite furry friend.
Along with being next door to the golf course, living here puts you close to the large areas of woods in Daugherty's Todd Grant and Ward Higbees Trope
Grant. These woods offer you an area
of trails in the shade to walk under in the heat of a summer day.
What is the terrain like in Sugar Mill?
Living next door to a golf course on the outskirts of town
is a very peaceful existence. You won't have much in the way of traffic to deal
with on your daily walks with your dog. This
is providing you take your walks at any other
time besides morning or evening rush hours. During these hours, you should avoid
going for walks as there aren't any sidewalks to keep you away from vehicles.
The one thing you can't do
is take your dog out for walks on the golf
course as they are not welcome. This is a planned community and, like many of the other communities throughout the various courses,
it does not have much in the way of shade trees to keep walkers comfortable. The best
time of day to go walking during the hottest part of the year is during the early
morning hours before things start heating up.
How many greenways are there in Sugar Mill?
The vast areas of woods to the east of
the community offer you plenty of shady
trails to hike along. But, if you want something a little bigger
and more challenging, you'll need to hop in the car and head west on SR-44 to the
Tiger Bay State Forest and Tomoka Wildlife Management Area. This area covers over
30,000 acres with miles of trails to enjoy.
If you prefer to walk in the fresh ocean air, the beach is
only twenty minutes to the east and offers the two of you miles of sand to explore. The dual terrain of soft and wet sand makes for an
excellent workout that will help both of you build your leg muscles and
endurance. Plus, you get to take a dip in the water to cool off at the end of
your walk as you enjoy a swim with your four-legged friend!
