Wag! Walkers know St Andrews
St. Andrews is the central residential community in the center
of the golf course by the same name. The homes here are modest single-family
houses sitting a loop road with only one way
in or out. The entire community is heavily shaded and, thanks to the single access
road, a peaceful place to live.
Besides the golf and country club, the nearest places to eat
are ten minutes away in the central part of town. The same applies to grocery
stores, department stores, and pet supply stores where you can keep your
dog well supplied in their favorite foods and treats.
To make things even better,
the beach is only fifteen minutes to the east and
there are plenty of parks and nature preserves for you and your pooch to
explore at every opportunity. The mild
weather ensures that there are very few days of the year when the two of you
can't get out and go walking.
What is the terrain like in St Andrews?
The terrain here consists mainly of golfing greens which is only
to be expected since you live in the middle
of a course. Like most golf courses, the land here is mostly flat with a few minor
undulations. Keep in mind that dogs are not permitted on the course for several
reasons and it's best to seek other avenues.
The community itself is relatively quiet with a little extra
traffic during the daily rush hours. There are, however,
no sidewalks for the two of you to use, so you are
relegated to walking along the roads. Thanks to the high number of shade
trees, your walks should be a little cooler, even if you have to wait until later
in the day to enjoy a stroll away from the heat.
The one thing you do have
to watch out for is people on their golf carts as they tend to come from out
of nowhere sometimes!
How many greenways are there in St Andrews?
When you live in the middle of a vast area of green space that
isn't open to you and your dog, life can feel a bit frustrating. Luckily, to the east and just outside of the community are Ward Higbee Trope Grant and Daugherty's Todd
Grant, both of which are vast wooded areas that have not been fully developed. They offer plenty of
shaded areas to walk in and a great way to spend time out in the fresh
air.
To the west, there is
a vast area of undeveloped forest land with a wide array of lakes and trails
for you and your dog to enjoy hiking in. The area
sits between I-95 and Pioneer Trail and is as close to getting back to nature around
here as you are likely to find without having to drive to either the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area or north on US-1 to the Doris Leeper Spruce
Creek Preserve.
