Wag! Walkers know Smyrna Cove
Smyrna Cove is a neighborhood of large homes on the Mosquito Lagoon
Aquatic Preserve and next door to the Indian River Lagoon Park on the beachside
peninsula. Three blocks of easy walking to the east puts you and your dog on the beach where you can walk
for as many miles as the two of you can handle.
If you need places to shop for groceries and pet supplies,
there is a Publix no more than five minutes to the north on the
corner of E 3rd Avenue and S Atlantic Avenue. E 3rd is also home to a number of stores, bars, and excellent
restaurants for you and your family to sample. You might be surprised at how
many of them you find are much better than you expected them to be.
Just remember to keep lots of mosquito repellant on you in this part of Florida. They tend to love muggy weather!
What is the terrain like in Smyrna Cove?
One of the best reasons to live along the aquatic preserve
instead of along the beach is the relative
peace and quiet. While you might see a
little traffic headed to the park, the only time it might get heavier than usual is during the morning and evening
rush hours. Beyond this, you and your dog should be able to enjoy quiet walks
without having to play chicken with cars on the roads.
Thankfully, most of the roads here have sidewalks, meaning you won't be walking on the streets. On top of this, the area is surrounded by
trees and the Indian River Lagoon Park. Inside the park are several walking
trails you and your dog can spend time hiking in under the shade. You
might only run into a fair amount of pedestrian traffic during the day as those living
in the condos walk to and from the beach.
How many greenways are there in Smyrna Cove?
The Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic
Preserve is a part of the Indian River Lagoon Network. It is best explored by boat and is home to a pod
of dolphins who have been living here for decades. The area may be a bit confusing, however, for those unfamiliar with the area. Bring a guide or take a map with you to ensure that you can find your way back.
On the other side of the peninsula is the beach and the coastal waters of the Atlantic. The beach offers you and your
dog the perfect place to exercise. You can use the soft sand for a good workout and the wet sand for a steady cool-down stroll afterwards. The warm waters provide a nice place to go swimming, though you'll want to watch out for other beachgoers who may be in the nearby area. Keep your pooch on a leash to keep them safe and away from interrupting others.
