Wag! Walkers know Royal
Royal is home to the Grand Oaks Apartments near the corner of Highway 44 and Mission Drive. There are several fast-food restaurants, a Publix
grocery store, and numerous other businesses, making this a bustling area to live in. Taking your dog out for walks in
the dark alone may not be your best choice.
There
are plenty of places to get something fast to eat within walking distance. There
are plenty of more formal restaurants within driving distance of your home as well. If
you want to find parks to take your dog walking in, once again, you have a bit
of a drive. This being said, there are a number of
fantastic places to go hiking with your dog, just not in the neighborhood.
When
the temperatures get too hot, consider hitting the beach and playing in the ocean
from time to time. Your dog is sure to appreciate it!
What is the terrain like in Royal?
Beyond two apartment complexes, the rest of your neighbors
are all commercial enterprises. This
makes for a very busy area where you and
your dog need to find alternative areas to
walk in away from the constant traffic. The one thing you do need to keep a close
eye out for around here is pedestrian traffic after dark. It may not be the best time to be out walking your dog.
There are woods behind you with trails for the two of you to
walk around on, but be sure you keep plenty of mosquito spray handy as these
little buggers never seem to die in Central Florida. Thankfully, the ground
here is very flat and the woods do offer you somewhere to walk during the
daylight hours. The trees will at least offer some amount of shade and protection from the sun when the day starts to
heat up.
How many greenways are there in Royal?
While the area around you might feel more like living in the
middle of a business park, surprisingly, there are plenty of green spaces nearby for you and your dog to enjoy. The
nearest one is right behind you, the vast area of woods with trails and the Turnbull
Creek running through the middle of it all. This
makes a nice cool place to go walking with your dog on a summer morning.
Alternatively, you can go to the other side of Highway 44 where
you and your pooch can explore the many acres of woods that make up South and North
Otter Parks. Turnbull Creek runs through both parks and there is a small lake in the northern park. These parks make great
places for you to take your dog for daily walks. You can enjoy the shade trees as
you explore the various trails running through the parks and share some excellent
bonding time.
