Wag! Walkers know Oliver
Whether you like to take your dog for a walk around the lake, play in the park, or have an avid skater in your family, living in Oliver has
you covered. Living out here by the airport means dealing with the
noise and traffic it generates, but as long as you and your dog take your walks
away from US-1, it shouldn't be a problem.
Having a home in Oliver as a pet owner has one very distinct
advantage. There is a veterinary hospital
two blocks south on the highway. While there are a couple of places to eat
within walking distance, the central part of town is less than five minutes
away. Here, you can find a selection of restaurants, grocery stores, pet supplies,
and much more.
There are several parks, preserves, and miles of beach, all within a fifteen-minute drive of your home. Living
on US-1 is also ideal for those who work further north including Port Orange and
Daytona Beach.
What is the terrain like in Oliver?
The one challenging part of living here is that your neighborhood sits on US-1 and the noise and traffic it generates can be a bit much. US-1 is one of the oldest north-south highways in the
country and runs from far up north in Maine down to Key West. While I-95 has taken
the bulk of the traffic, US-1 is still a bustling
highway from early in the morning until very late at night. During the wee hours, the traffic is mostly trucks and delivery
vehicles.
Fortunately, within the neighborhood, traffic is pretty limited
and there are several other similar residential communities the two of you can
add into your walks. On top of this, you can walk around the lake for a change
of pace. The one thing missing is sidewalks for the two of you to hike along, leaving
you with the roads to use. The roads are heavily shaded in some areas, however, making them bearable.
How many greenways are there in Oliver?
The nearest greenway is Turnbull Street Park which is attached
to the lake to the west of the neighborhood. The park has a playground for the
kids and plenty of grass for you and your pup to play on. The lake offers you
and your pooch a chance to walk in the woods and on something besides pavement.
To the north,
you will find several entrances to the 11,637 acres that make up the Doris
Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. This is a nature
preserve that includes a number of trails
for the two of you to hike on through the woods and swamps. If you are serious about exercising, you can take
the three-mile hike to Rose Bay. The best time of day to go walking through the preserve is early in the
morning before it becomes busy and you have to share the peace and quiet with too many others.
