Wag! Walkers know Marker Condo
Marker Condo sits on the east bank of Callalisa Creek which
flows from the Indian River North into the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. The
condo has a large number of private boat docks for you to use. You can take your
boat out into the water or deep into the preserve. Unlike the condominiums
on the beach, the Marker Condo is surrounded
by trees and green space.
At nearby Callalisa Park,
you can launch a canoe, paddle board, or kayak. Along E 3rd Avenue, there are several
places to eat and shop, including a supermarket where you can also buy
dog food to keep your furry friend happy. Alternatively, you can turn right on
E 3rd Avenue, go over the bridge, and head into mainland New Smyrna Beach where you will
find a larger selection of stores to shop
in along with many other amenities such as pet supply stores and groomers.
What is the terrain like in Marker Condo?
The terrain around the Marker Condo is a bit unusual in that
the buildings sit on Callalisa Creek and are protected
from view by a swath of trees between the buildings. Being located on S Peninsula
Avenue and close to A1A, vehicular traffic tends to be hectic during
most of the day and well into the night. Venturing around this area will require some fair caution.
All around the condos, the community is mostly residential
with a relatively low crime rate, making it an inviting place to take your dogs for
walks. As a primarily residential area, traffic builds up during rush hours, making
these the best times to stay indoors. You might also want to avoid
school bus pickup and drop off times, especially if your dog loves kids. You
might never get to finish your walks if your pup keeps getting distracted by free pets from the local teenagers!
How many greenways are there in Marker Condo?
The Marker Condo sits inside its own small green space, thanks to all of the trees around the buildings. On
the other side of E 3rd Avenue is the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve, a massive area
of waterways, islands, and swamps. You can explore some of it in a small motorized
boat and far more of it by canoe or kayak.
The beach is only five minutes to the east. The sandy dunes make an excellent
place to go for walks with your dog as the softer dry sands are hard to walk in
and will help burn calories and build muscles. The best time to take your dog for walks on this sandy terrain is early in
the morning when the only thing you have to dodge is the seagulls and a few
others out taking advantage of the peace and
quiet to walk their own pampered pups.
