Wag! Walkers know Hidden Pines
Hidden Pines is a townhouse community along SR-44 on the outskirts
of town. SR-44 is a major highway along which you can find a variety of
restaurants, retailer stores, and a Publix grocery store. Living here puts you
close to just about anything you could need or want, including a dog park and the
S Tomoka Wildlife Management Area.
While New Smyrna Beach is a sizeable town, if you live
within city limits, you are only a fifteen minute
drive from just about everything including green spaces for you and your dog
to go walking in and the beach! Just remember that motor vehicles are
allowed on the dunes and it starts to get
busy early in the morning. By midday, it is typically packed, making it a dangerous
place to go walking during the busiest
parts of the day.
Florida weather can be a bit much, especially during the summer. Plan your outings accordingly by keeping an eye on the weather.
What is the terrain like in Hidden Pines?
Within the community of Hidden Pines, there are only two times
of the day when the traffic is likely to be heavy: morning and evening
rush hours. However, SR-44
is a very busy highway and not the best
place for you and your dog to go walking along anyway. The one thing that is, unfortunately, missing in the neighborhood is sidewalks.
With no sidewalks, you are stuck with walking
on the roads which means you'll need to take extra precautions when you and
your pooch are out for a walk. This includes
doing things like wearing light-colored clothing
and keeping your dog on a short leash.
You may not see much in the way of
pedestrian traffic beyond when the school buses
are running. Many of the surrounding areas
are heavily wooded and, with a little
looking around, you should be able to find a few trails to take your pup for
walks on.
How many greenways are there in Hidden Pines?
The area is surrounded by wooded spots, some of which you
can use for walks while others are private property. On the other side of SR-44 are
two large wooded parks, Otter Park North and Otter Park South. The two halves
of the park are separated by the New Smyrna
Beach Multi-Use Trail where you and your pooch can hike to the center of town or all
the way west to I-95.
If you want to take your dog to a fenced-in dog park, it's
only a five-minute drive to the New Smyrna
Dog Park. Here, you will find two separate fenced-in areas. Each of the sections has a watering station for the
pooches to use along with a number of fun agility
obstacles for them to play on. There is also a shady pavilion for owners to
hide from the sun while their dogs go out and play together.
