Wag! Walkers know Coronado Shores
Coronado Shores is the last single-family house community
north on the peninsula. The only things further north are condos, a National Marine
Fisheries Service, the Coast Guard Station, and Smyrna Dunes Park. The
community is peaceful and sits on the scrub
zone with trails down to the beach rather than being right up against the sand itself.
Living this far north on the peninsula means being away from
the common amenities we take for granted
such as grocery stores, gas stations, places to buy pet food, and places to go
when you need someone else to do the cooking. The good news is that even though
you have to drive to these amenities,
most are within a ten-minute drive.
There are plenty of places to take your dog for their daily walks
and even more for those special times when you both want somewhere a little different
to walk. These include parks, nature preserves, and
wildlife management areas.
What is the terrain like in Coronado Shores?
Part of the community sits on the scrub zone and part within
a neatly manicured neighborhood. The one thing you won't have to deal with a lot
of is traffic. The main north-south road, North Peninsula, runs past the west side
of the community and can be a little busy at times, but beyond this, the rest of the community is quite tranquil, especially for those who live on the
water.
You are more likely to run into more pedestrian traffic as people
walk to and from the beach. Be sure you keep your dog on a short leash while
walking them around the neighborhood. A short leash
is for your dog's safety as well as everyone else's.
Rather than walk around
the community, you should stick to taking your dog out on the dunes in the
early mornings when traffic is at a minimum and before the sun starts to climb
too high in the sky.
How many greenways are there in Coronado Shores?
The beach is, of course, the nearest and largest green space
to your home in Coronado Shores. It starts at the tip of the peninsula and runs
continuously all the way down to Port Canaveral. It may offer you and your pup the best possible place to go for a walk. Use the different types of terrain for the ultimate workout. Be sure you take the time to go for a nice cool dip in the waves at the end of your walk!
Five minutes to the north is Smyrna Dunes Park, one of the only
dog-friendly county parks in the area. The park is home to five carefully and
lovingly tended ecosystems including beachfront, riverbanks, dunes, saltwater marsh, and scrub zone.
You can enjoy taking your pooch along the 1.5-mile-long boardwalk designed to let you hike the trails and spend time playing on
the beach with your dog before going for a swim in the warm waters of the Ponce Inlet.
