Wag! Walkers know Cora Ross
Living in the Cora Ross neighborhood is like living in the country
while still being close enough to the city to enjoy the many amenities it has
to offer. This small community sits on the edge of Otter Park North to the west
and the New Smyrna Beach Multi-Use Trail the south. You are also close enough to
Pioneer Trail that you can be back in the heart of town in five minutes and on
the beach in less than fifteen.
If dining out is your thing, there are plenty of fabulous restaurants and fast-food joints in town
and over on the beachside. You can find everything from standard All-American fare
to exceptional Mediterranean cuisine. When you need to stock the fridge or buy your
pup a bag of dog food or more of their favorite treats, there are several stores in town to choose from on both sides
of the Indian River North.
What is the terrain like in Cora Ross?
Living out here has another major
advantage that goes right along with the tranquil
lifestyle in the form of roads that remain quiet most
of the day with the exception of rush
hours. Pioneer Trail is the only road that might have some traffic on it during
the day and the two of you can easily avoid
walking on it as there is a sidewalk to use.
Then again, when you have the Multi-Use Trail to the south, why on earth would you want to put yourself and your dog through the stress
of walking alongside a busy street? Keep in mind that while you might not see
much in the way of vehicular traffic on the trail, you can expect
to run into others out walking their dogs as well as hikers and cyclists. All along this paved trail, there is plenty of grass on either side for
your dog to walk on which will be much easier
on their paws.
How many greenways are there in Cora Ross?
To the west of the neighborhood are the many acres of dense
woods that make up Otter Park North and Otter Park South. The Multi-Use Trail
runs right through the middle of the parks on its way to I-95. The
parks have numerous trails running under the dense canopy to help keep you and your
dog out of the scorching Florida sun.
If you're up for a bit of a drive, hop on SR-44 and head
west to the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area. It's part of the Tiger Bay Wildlife
Management Area that covers more than 30,000 acres. In 1998, half of the WMA was badly damaged or destroyed in wildfires.
Today, it has returned to its natural state and is a beautiful place to take
your pooch for long walks in the shade. Be sure to keep an eye out for black bears,
whitetail deer, and many other animals who live here.
