Wag! Walkers know Castle Reef Condo
Sitting on S Atlantic Avenue,
the Castle Reef Condo faces the oceanfront. Beyond the fact that you can walk
out of the building and be on the beach in about sixty seconds, you also have a
spectacular view of the water and, if you can get up early enough, a fabulous sunrise.
The beach also makes the perfect place to take your dog for walks.
On the other side of S Atlantic Avenue is a small
shopping center with a couple of small restaurants for you to sample. If you
need something a little more substantial, two minutes to the north is E 3rd Street where there is a Publix grocery store. Here, you can fill
the fridge, stock the pantry, grab a six-pack,
or pick up a fresh bag or can of dog food to feed your pooch. Along this stretch of the E 3rd Avenue, you can also find several other restaurants
and shops to check out.
What is the terrain like in Castle Reef Condo?
While maybe not as busy as some other beachside towns, this
area of New Smyrna Beach tends to be bustling most times of the year. If you plan
to walk your dog along S Atlantic Avenue during the day, you and your pup are
likely to have to deal with a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. For
your safety and that of your dog, be sure to keep them on a short leash.
If you plan to use the beach for your daily walks with the
family pooch, you should go early in the morning before things get busy. The beach
is open to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. If you wait for the middle of
the morning when the temperature starts to heat up, you will be dealing with lots
of it! The best time to go for a walk, during the summer
months especially, is early in the morning before things get hectic.
How many greenways are there in Castle Reef Condo?
To the west, up against the developed area, the sand along the coast is dry and deep.
It sucks at your feet and your dog's paws with every step. Dry sand like this
is the perfect way for you to build up leg muscles and endurance. To the east and at the ocean's edge, the sand is wet and feels solid. It's much
easier to walk on and gives you both the opportunity to take a dip in the water.
If you don’t mind taking a ten-minute drive to the north, you
will arrive at the Smyrna Dunes Park, one of the few county parks that are open to dogs. Inside the park are five different
very carefully maintained ecosystems. There is a 1.5-mile long elevated boardwalk that keeps you and
your dog above the delicate dunes. The park covers 73 acres and includes a dog-friendly
beach and plenty of room to go swimming in the Ponce Inlet.
