Wag! Walkers know Captains Quarters
Captains Quarters is a senior condominium community
that sits at the end of historic Canal Street on a spit of land that juts out
into the Indian River North. Each of the units has either a front or side view
of the river. The complex also offers boat docking space rentals. The condos
are close to several places to eat, a couple of parks, and the North Causeway
that leads over to the beach.
There is plenty of
shopping within ten minutes of your condo including grocery stores and pet
supply stores so you can keep your dog well-fed. If the
few restaurants nearby don't quite fit your tastes, there are plenty more on
the other end of the North Causeway along historic
Flagler Avenue, along with a number of boutiques
and stores. Flagler Avenue is also home to a few lively bars for you
to stop in during your evenings out.
What is the terrain like in Captains Quarters?
The condos sit on a spit of land that is completely paved over, leaving you with no
choice but to take your dog out and away from the condos if you want anything that even
remotely resembles grass. The condos also sit on N Riverside Drive which can be a bustling road, depending on the time of day.
It tends to be especially active during
rush hours as people try to reach their jobs or return home at the end of the
day.
With Riverside Park and Old Fort Park within a block of the condos,
you can expect to see a significant amount of pedestrian traffic, most often in
the form of others out walking their dogs or going to play in the parks. The ground
here is flat and only some of the
streets have sidewalks. You'll find the area somewhat lacking in trees as well, so you'll be moderately warm on your walks.
How many greenways are there in Captains Quarters?
Living here puts you with a ten-minute drive of the beach, the Spruce Creek Preserve, and the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. The beach is a
great place to take your pup for a walk with soft sand to create a good workout
and wet sand for a gentle return.
If you prefer the woods, then the 1,600 acres that make up Spruce Creek Preserve may be more to
your tastes. The preserve offers swamps, wetlands, and woods, along with miles of trails that lead all the way to Rose
Bay. Don't forget to climb to the top of the observation tower and take a moment
to enjoy the sweeping views of the swamps.
Finally, the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve offers plenty of places for you to pull up and stretch your legs on any
one of the many islands. The only bad thing is that it's easy to get lost out
here, so you might want to bring a tracking GPS to find your
way home.
