Wag! Walkers know Midtown
Midtown Miami represents the communities of Wynwood,
Edgewater, and Beverly Terrace. The area is a blend of residential towers,
high-end retail stores, offices spaces, and more. Along with all of this, there
are several parks to take Fido for a walk in. The "city within a
city" offers plenty of room to walk and direct access to the waterfront.
As you might expect, finding somewhere to eat is never a problem here as there
are many amazing restaurants for you to check out.
Being close to the water
means frequent light breezes in the summer when the temperatures are in the low
90s to help keep you cooled down. During the winter months, the worst you can
expect is January temperatures dipping into the 60s and up to 59 inches of rain
each year. The good news is that it never snows in Miami and the sun shines for
approximately 250 days every year.
What is the terrain like in Midtown?
Midtown is heavily built up with plenty of high-rise condos
and apartment buildings along with many other single and multi-family housing
areas scattered through the area. Going for walks with Fido should take into
account the fact that most of the terrain they have to walk on is going to be
paved. Unless your pup is accustomed to walking on pavement, the two of you need
to start out nice and slow. Give them plenty of time to build up some calluses
on the pads of their feet. If you try to take them for a long walk before this
happens, you will probably find yourself headed to the vet for bandages and
salve.
With so much pavement, you should also take your walks in the early
morning hours before it has had time to heat up to the point where it can burn
your pup's paws, resulting in yet another uncomfortable visit to the vet.
How many greenways are there in Midtown?
Midtown is very fortunate as city planners worked hard to
avoid turning the entire place into one big concrete wasteland. There are
several parks in the area, many of which are dog-friendly. The best of these are
in the southern section of town and include Biscayne Park and Margaret Pace
Park.
Margaret Pace Park is located right on the waterfront and covers 8 acres.
The park includes two fenced-in areas for dogs to run free, including one for larger dogs
and one for smaller breeds. Unlike many parks, Margaret Pace Park
offers plenty of grass for Fido to run around on with the other dogs. There
are doggy waste bags and a trail that goes all the way around the park for the
two of you to explore.
Biscayne Park, on the other hand, is really not
much more than a wide-open expanse of grass. But then, what more could an energetic pup ask for?
