Wag! Walkers know Camp Biscayne
Camp Biscayne is a gated community located right on the
waterfront and contains the many fantastic restaurants, shops, and bars of Coconut Grove. The neighborhood is home to houses ranging
in the $1 to $3 million-dollar range and there
are only 26 homes within the community. The first home was built here in 1987. Originally, the area was home to a winter retreat for the wealthy who were interested in
sailing, camping, and fishing.
Living here
is ideal for dog-lovers as you can walk through the housing area in relative safety
because traffic is restricted. Pet supply stores are
within easy driving distance and the Barnacle State Historic Park with trails
through the trees is on the northern side of the community. Those who love to
be out on the water can make use of the docks and waterways. The weather here provides a great atmosphere for sailing or other activities out in the surf.
What is the terrain like in Camp Biscayne?
The terrain here has been preserved to the best of the developer's
ability with swaths of the original forests that founder Ralph Middleton Munroe
worked to preserve when he founded the original resort back in 1903. While there
might not be much in the way of sidewalks for you and Barney to walk on, there
is very little in the way of traffic to worry about as it is limited only to
those who live here and a few tradesmen.
However, since the area is heavily
wooded, you need to wear light-colored clothing or something reflective to help
motorists see you while you are out for your daily stroll. Alternatively,
you can always go for a nice walk in The Barnacle Historic State Park. When you
live in an area such as this, it's not about where you go for a walk, it's that you take the time to do so on a daily basis.
How many greenways are there in Camp Biscayne?
You could almost call the yards in this very private and
luxurious community greenways, but there is still plenty of green space for you
and Barney to run around on. All you have to do
is walk to the northern edge of the neighborhood where you will find The
Barnacle Historic State Park. This space offers 5 acres of grass, trees, trails, and the founder's historic home.
If you would like to take your pup to a fenced-in dog park, the Coconut Grove Dog Park is only a short drive
north on Biscayne Blvd. The park offers a vast grassy area for to run around
on without being burdened by a leash. If you have a boat, you can always cruise
out to Dinner Key Picnic Islands Park. This small island in the bay offers plenty
of wide open space and trails for the two of you to run around on.
