Wag! Walkers know Read Edgewater
Read Edgewater is a small neighborhood of older homes
located on Azalea Drive, immediately to the south of the Florida Shores Plaza. The
houses here are all single-family with large yards, many of which are fenced-in.
The one thing missing from most of the yards seems to be shade trees to
help keep the sun at bay and the homes and yards a little cooler.
From your home, you can walk to the plaza and the Winn-Dixie
supermarket in less than five minutes. Here, you should be able to find food for
everyone in your family, even the one whose tail never stops wagging. If you
need a morning pick-me-up, you and your dog can walk to the Dunkin Donuts
in the plaza and swing through the drive through to pick up your order. US-1,
the main north-south highway running through town, is one block to the east and
can take you to a variety of shops, businesses, and eateries in both directions.
What is the terrain like in Read Edgewater?
Read Edgewater is your typical suburban neighborhood in that
the homes and yards are well kept and there aren't any sidewalks for you and
your pooch to enjoy. Both 19th Street and Cocoa Palms Drive tend to be very
hectic during the morning and evening rush hours as many of those who live in the
surrounding neighborhood head to and from work. The school year only adds to
the congestion and, with no sidewalks to walk on, things can get a little dicey
if you choose to walk during these times.
The land here is quite flat and doesn't exactly offer much
in the way of a challenge for your walks. Thankfully, you can use the surrounding
residential areas to extend them, ensuring you and your dog get plenty of exercise.
If you take your walk next door into Mariners Gate, there are plenty of sidewalks
for the two of you to use.
How many greenways are there in Read Edgewater?
There is a large area of grass and
trees immediately to the west between the O'Reilly Auto Parts and the Bank of America
Financial Center for the two of you to run around on. Keep in mind that this area is
next to US-1, so your dog should be on a leash to prevent them
from running out into the traffic. There is even a small area of trees with trails that you and your pup can follow.
Unfortunately, there aren't any parks within walking distance
of Read Edgewater. You have no choice but to hop in the car and go for a ride
with your dog. However, if you are going to do this, why not head over the river to
Smyrna Dunes Park at the tip of the peninsula? This park covers 73 acres and even has
a dog-friendly beach to play on or go for a swim in!
