Wag! Walkers know Bella Vista
Bella Vista is a small section of a much larger housing
development sitting along the Indian River North, close to the Boston Whaler
boat manufacturer in the far south area of Edgewater. The development includes
several small artificial lakes, some of which have fountains for your enjoyment.
Built by the Hacienda Development Corp., many of the homes are very similar
to each other.
Living this far south also means that you must drive north to
find any type of store, including a Publix Supermarket in the Edgewater Commons
shopping center and a Winn-Dixie supermarket in the Florida Shores Plaza. Here, you should be able to find food to feed your family, including the member with
the waggly tail. If you and your family like to dine out from time to time, there
are plenty of excellent restaurants along US-1 as you drive north, as well as a large selection of stores to go shopping in.
What is the terrain like in Bella Vista?
While this is a single developer community, it seems that the
development company forgot to put in sidewalks for you to use for your daily walks
with your pooch. This is a working family community which, of course, means you should
expect to see a significant amount of traffic during the usual rush hour periods.
During the school year, you will also have to contend with the buses running around, picking up or dropping off the many children who live in the region.
Unless you have no choice, you and your dog should avoid walking
during these times as you have to share the road with the many vehicles heading
to and from work during the work week. You can use the numerous roads in the community
to extend your walks and add a little challenge to what might otherwise be a dull
walk that both of you may soon come to dread.
How many greenways are there in Bella Vista?
Within the community, there aren't any parks to take your
dog walking in. However, between the last row of houses and US-1, there is a strip
of woods for you to explore and spend time hiding from the summer sun. To the
south, there is a much larger area of grass, scrub, and trees. The area
separates the neighborhood from the Boston Whaler boat manufacturing facility on
Whaler Way.
If you are in the mood to take your dog for a ride in the
car, you should consider going over the causeway to Smyrna
Dunes Park. This unique park sits on the tip of the peninsula and covers 73
acres. Within its bounds, there are five carefully maintained ecosystems that
are representative of the entire area. More importantly, there is plenty of
room to run around on the dog-friendly beach before going for a swim in the warm
waters of Ponce Inlet.
