Wag! Walkers know Forest Hills
The homes in Forest Hills are mostly larger luxury homes
with shady yards sitting between West Voorhis Avenue to the north and West Euclid to the
south. Like most luxury communities, the residents here enjoy large properties and plenty of sidewalks for you and your dog to use. This is a family-friendly
community with plenty of room for you and dog to stroll and for your kids to
play.
Shopping is only a short drive to the north where you will find
the majority of stores at the intersection of East International Speedway Boulevard and
North Woodland Boulevard. Here, you will find a Publix Supermarket, a Walmart Supercenter,
and many other stores where you can find everything
your dog needs from their favorite foods to a new bed for them to look at before
they go and take over your bed, leaving you just enough room to lay down, if
you're lucky.
What is the terrain like in Forest Hills?
Like most residential areas in any town, you and your dog
may want to avoid going for walks during
the morning and evening rush hours as traffic in this area can be hectic. It
gets even worse during the school year when the school buses are competing for
space on the roads. While some dogs may do well, it generally
takes time for a dog to become acclimatized to the noise and exhaust.
Highland Park and Playground sits
right in the middle of the east side, meaning that there can be quite a few pedestrians in this area. This park tends to attract more children, especially. To avoid any potential behavioral
issues, keep your dog on a short walking leash and understand your pup's limitations. The lack of flat terrain will mean navigating through people here and there who find it to be a nice walking location. Don't let other dog walkers overwhelm you and your pup!
How many greenways are there in Forest Hills?
There is the park on the east side of the community and there
are several more scattered throughout town. If you want to get out of town
and stretch your legs while you go hiking with your dog, there are several
parks to the west where you can go to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.
Lake Beresford Park covers 210 acres with a main hiking trail that measures 1.8 miles. It is paved and used by bikers, hikers, and runners, as well as people
out walking their dogs. Along with this, there
are several unpaved trails, a vast lake,
and plenty of shade for you to enjoy.
A little further to the west is Hontoon Island State Park which you reach via a free ferry. The location is beautiful. There are rental cabins available for your use and plenty of
great hikes for you and your dog to take. It's a great place to spend a
quiet weekend enjoying nature.
