Wag! Walkers know Tuscawilla Highlands
Tuscawilla Highlands is located just south of S. Nova Rd. and
is next door to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at Daytona Beach.
Living here puts you close to the Volusia Mall and Daytona International Speedway,
home of the Daytona 500 and the Birthplace of Speed, not to mention the home of
NASCAR. It also puts you close to Tuscawilla Park and the Daytona International
Airport.
Of course, living in the heart of mainland Daytona does come
with certain perks like the amazing selection
of places to eat. There are also several places to buy pet supplies in the area.
For those who like hot weather, Daytona
Beach offers summers in the mid-90s to triple digits in July and August. When you add
in winters that typically remain in the high 40s and low 50s during the day,
you won't find many days in which you won't be able to get out and
walk.
What is the terrain like in Tuscawilla Highlands?
The terrain here is typical of what you might find anywhere in Daytona. In other words, it's very flat. While this might not
seem like it would present much of a walking challenge for the two of you, all it
takes is a little imagination to find ways to keep your walks both interesting and challenging.
Try walking around
different blocks, going different directions at the bottom of your driveway, or even
walking over to Tuscawilla Park. The more variety you can build into your
walks, the more enjoyable they will be. Your dog does more exploring using their nose than their eyes, so the more new areas you give them to sniff, the happier they will be. The variety in scenery doesn't hurt either!
There is also a small area of woods to the
east of the neighborhood that the two of you can check out on the occasional walk.
How many greenways are there in Tuscawilla Highlands?
There are several green spaces in the immediate vicinity of Tuscawilla Highlands including Tuscawilla
Park. This park was established as a disc
golf course with over 60 pin locations and plenty of water hazards, ditches, and
very tall trees to enjoy. It is a good
place to take your dog for their walks as there are several nature trails for the
two of you to explore.
If you need a larger area of green space, Tiger Bay State Forest and
the Tomoka Wildlife Management Area are only short drive west on US 92 International Speedway Blvd. Here, you will find
over 30,000 acres of prime Florida forest, wetlands, and, of course, local inhabitants
in the form of over 160 species of birds and numerous ground-based critters such
as black bears and gators. Be sure you bring plenty of insect repellent as the
mosquitoes here will eat you alive if you aren't
protected!
