Wag! Walkers know Seaman
Seaman is a single street just off of S. Ridgewood Ave. and
only a block from the Halifax River. Most of the homes here are older single-family
homes set in a nice shady location. Living here puts you within a short drive of
multiple restaurants including Daytona's famous Chart House restaurant, home
of the best seafood in town.
As for dog-friendly parks, there are a few small parks in the area
for you to take your dog to or you can cruise over to the beach or out to the
nearby Tomoka WMA and the Tiger Bay State Forest.
Living in Daytona Beach means being
able to take Spot for walks on at least 360 days of the year with winters
in the 50s and summers in the 90s. There are few days of the year when you can't
get out and walk, but even then, you can easily take an umbrella and a wear a coat.
What is the terrain like in Seaman?
The terrain here is flat and pretty uninteresting, much like
the rest of the city. Thankfully, there are plenty of sidewalks for the two of
you to walk on. Rather than looking at this type of terrain as not the best
place to go walking, you have to put your
creative mind to work. There are plenty more blocks for the two of you to explore. By taking different routes as often as possible, you can keep your walks fresh and
interesting.
If you
prefer something a little more challenging, you should consider heading over
to the beach. The beach offers two different types of walking. The first is the
soft, dry sand that sucks at your feet as you walk. It's a fantastic way to get in a good workout. On the way back, you can walk
on the wet sand which is much
easier and is a good
way to cool your muscles down.
How many greenways are there in Seaman?
The nearest green space is Bethune Point Park, a sports
complex with plenty of green grass for you and your dog to play around on. Unfortunately, your options here are very limited.
If
you want somewhere bigger with more challenging
terrain, head west on US 92 to the Tiger Bay State Forest which is part of the Tomoka Wildlife
Management Area. Here, you will find more than 30,000 acres of wetlands, cypress
swamps, hardwood hammocks, and pine-palmetto for the two of you or the whole
family to enjoy exploring. This area offers miles of horseback, bicycling, and
hiking trails to hike along.
Be sure you bring plenty of water for everyone,
including water and a bowl for your dog. While in the Wildlife Management Area, keep your eyes open for
bald eagles, Bachman's Sparrows, peregrine falcons, wood storks, black bear, and even
the occasional alligator, all of which call the WMA home.
