Oakbluff is a community of single-family homes, an RV
park, and a Family Dollar store along LPGA Blvd. on the corner of Derbyshire.
While living here keeps you out of the main flow of traffic, you are within driving
distance of an excellent selection of restaurants such as Anna's Trattoria Italian,
the Chart House, the Cellar, Chucheria's Latin-Caribbean, and many others. Dog
parks and pet stores are a bit of a drive, but not hard to find and you are a
short drive from the beachside. You are also close to Daytona International Speedway and
the Birthplace of Speed Museum.
Summers here are delightful with weeks of blue
skies, incredible sunshine, and temperatures in the upper 90s. However, this is a bit
hot for most dogs to be out in. Take your
walks in the early morning hours before the world around you heats up and never
leave your pup in the car on a hot day!
What is the terrain like in Oakbluff?
The terrain here is flat and residential with blocks of single-family
homes on either side of LPGA Blvd. and very little in the way of available grass or woods nearby.
For you and
your pup, this means learning to make the most of what you have to work with. Most of the streets here are older and do
not have sidewalks for you to walk on. Instead, you are stuck with
having to walk on the roads. This means having
to pay very close attention to the traffic around you as they are not necessarily
looking for you.
It also means having to keep a close eye on the bottom side of
your dog's paws. Most roads are littered with debris such as broken glass
that can cause injury. Checking those paws regularly will help you catch
any issues early and prevent them from becoming serious
enough to require a trip to the vet.

There is a small lake in the northeast corner of Oakbluff along
with a very small section of woods.
However, these don't offer much is in the way of usable green space. But if you don't mind a bit of a drive to the west, the Tiger Bay Wildlife
Management Area offers you and Fido over 30,000 acres of old and new growth to explore together. There are lakes and
ponds, cypress swamps, pine-palmettos, and areas that sit in deep shade and stay cool all summer long for
you and your pup to explore!
The WMA also offers miles of trails leading all through
the area the two of you can hike together. Be sure you bring plenty of drinking
water for both of you and a collapsible bowl for your pooch to drink out of. Remember to also bring your mosquito repellent as this muggy weather has a tendency to attract them in droves!
