Wag! Walkers know Horn Kittredge
Horn Kittredge is a small neighborhood over on the beachside
close to the Main Street Bridge. Being only a block and half from both the Halifax
River and the beach is a beautiful place
to live! You are within walking and driving distance of an excellent selection
of restaurants serving a wide range of seafood dishes and international
cuisines.
For those that like the nightlife, beachside Daytona is the heart of the
club scene with many of the beachside
clubs having decks that lead directly out onto the beach. While there may be a
few small parks in the vicinity, they offer very little in the way of room for
you and your dog to play. For larger parks,
you will have to drive for a few miles north or west.
Living here means
learning to enjoy summers in the 90s and winters in the 40s and 50s. It rarely
drops below freezing here, even at night.
What is the terrain like in Horn Kittredge?
The terrain here is mostly flat and sandy with not much beyond
sidewalks to stroll along. Of course, no
matter where you live, how much you get out to of your walks is only
limited by the effort you choose to put into making them fun.
You can walk around different blocks, go different directions, and even get out early in the morning and take Fido for a jog. But if you want terrain that is really challenging, all you have to do is go to the beach.

At the beach, you can walk the soft sand that sucks at your feet, making it much harder for both of you to walk. The soft sand will
give your leg muscles and your dog's a good
healthy workout on your way out and then
you can come back on the hard packed wet sand where the walking is much less strenuous.
How many greenways are there in Horn Kittredge?
Greenways in this part of Daytona Beach are few and far between.
But along with the miles of beach, you can cruise over the Main Street Bridge and explore more of your options.
You can go north on to Tomoka State Park or west
on to the Tiger Bay State Forest and Wildlife Management Area.
Tomoka State Park straddles the Tomoka River and is approximately 2,000 acres
of hardwood hammock. There are hundreds of bird species
for you to enjoy searching for as well as black bears and more than a few
gators. Be sure you keep your pup on a leash or
they might end up being the next gator snack!
To the west is the WMA with 30,000
acres to explore and miles of trails for the two of you or the whole family to
hike along through the forests where there are even more birds and forms of wildlife to
look for along the way.
