Wag! Walkers know Hickory Lane
One of the advantages
of living on Hickory Lane is that while your home is on the beachside, you are
not on the beach! That's not to say living on the beach isn't amazing in its own right, but by living along S
Peninsula Drive, you have the added advantage of not having to deal with the traffic along A1A, especially
during the summer months.
Living in this area also puts you within driving distance of some
of the best restaurants and nightclubs the city has to offer. Have a spectacular
seafood dinner at Azure, one of the city's finest
seafood restaurants and then dance the night away at Ocean Deck.
Speaking of dancing
under the stars, summers here are perfect for an evening out, even on the beach. While it's
not quite that warm in the winter here, you can still take your pup for walks on
the sand as January temperatures are between 45 and 55°F.
What is the terrain like in Hickory Lane?
Living on the beachside means living with flat terrain that might not seem like it could
present you with nowhere exciting to go. Of course, things don't have to be this
way! You just
have to be ready to put your creative side to work.
Although Hickory Lane is a
short street with only a few large homes, there are plenty of other blocks for
the two of you to take in on each of your walks. Being only two and a half blocks
from the beach, you might want to forgo walking on the sidewalks in favor of the
sand. But don't expect the sand to go easy on your legs! Dry, soft sand
will grab at your feet, making
it harder to walk. When you have gone as
far as you feel comfortable with, walk
back at the edge of the surf on the hard sand. The walking is much easier!
How many greenways are there in Hickory Lane?
Like most areas on the beachside, living on Hickory Lane
means not living close to anywhere in terms of
green space. If you want anything green, you had best be prepared to drive to
it.
The largest green space in the nearby
area is just to the west, outside of town. The Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area
and Tiger Bay State Forest cover approximately 30,000 acres of old and new
growth forest.
The WMA has miles of trails suitable
for biking, horseback riding, and, of course, going for long hikes with your dog out
in the fresh air. Be sure to look for whitetail deer, black bears, wild
turkeys, and many other members of the wildlife families who live here as you
hike along with your leashed pooch at your side. Don't forget to bring the bug repellent as there are
more than enough mosquitoes to cause some seriously itchy bites!
