Harbourside Sunsets Condo is a small condominium unit located on
the banks of the Halifax River and only a few blocks from the beach. The condos
were renamed from Newport Apartments after
being converted to condos. Being over on the beachside
puts you within walking distance of the beach and A1A where you will find
dozens of tasty restaurants serving up and an incredible
variety of cuisine including seafood. The nearest dog-friendly
parks are within driving distance. As for pet supply
stores, plan on getting in the car and heading back over to the mainland side
of town.
Living in Daytona Beach means being able to get out and go for walks virtually
every day of the year, even in January when daytime temperatures are in the upper 40s. You never have to worry about snow! Summer averages weeks of endless sunshine and
temperatures in the 90s and up, so prepare for some significant humidity.
What is the terrain like in Harbourside Sunsets Condo?
The terrain here is relatively flat and has little to offer
in the way of a challenge for you and your dog to take on. To either side of the condos, there are vacant lots, but they are
not for you to take your pup for a walk on as they are
marked with "No Trespassing" signs. Thankfully, both sides of S. Peninsular
Dr. have sidewalks that run for miles in both directions.
You will also find
that the neighborhoods between the condos and the beach also have plenty of
sidewalks that you can use to go virtually anywhere in the area. Do keep in
mind that paved surfaces can be rough on your dog's paws. Be sure you start out
with short walks to give them time to toughen up to the
point where they can take on longer walks. During the summer months, watch for heated pavement to keep your pup's paws safe.
How many greenways are there in Harbourside Sunsets Condo?
Living on the banks of the Halifax River affords you little in
the way of green space. The vacant lots on either side of the condo buildings are
private property and not for you to take walks on.
Fortunately, a short drive to the north will take you to the Tomoka State Park. This park offers a one-half mile interpretive trail that slices
through the hardwood hammock. The
trail will take you through Nocoroco, the
site of an ancient Timucuan Indian village.
During the summer months, you need
to take precautions to protect yourself from the clouds of mosquitoes who live here. For a little extra fun, the park has become quite popular
with Geocachers who have placed numerous
trinkets and treasures throughout the park for you and to find. Geocaching
is a great way to add a little fun to your walks and could lead to you going
all over the state in search of more treasures!
