Wag! Walkers know Ella Colemans
Ella Colemans is a single-street community with single-family
homes and an apartment building on the west end of the street. The neighborhood
is less than a block from the Halifax River and the Main St. Bridge that takes you over
to the beachside. There is an excellent selection of restaurants on both sides of
the Halifax River. If you are into clubbing, it's just a short drive over to A1A where there are multiple
clubs catering to a wide variety of tastes. There are a few small parks
in the area, but nothing of any great
size. They're just enough grass for your pup to play around on.
Daytona Beach is the
perfect place for those who like warm winters and super hot summers. In the
winter, you can count on temperatures in the 40s and 50s and no snow. In the
summers, you can count on highs in the 90s
for weeks on end and regular rain showers.
What is the terrain like in Ella Colemans?
The overall terrain in the Ella Colemans neighborhood is
flat and sandy, with the beach just a block and a half away. The bulk of your
walking will be done on the sidewalks running around most blocks. While the flat ground may not seem like
it has a lot to offer in the way of a challenge, it just means that you need to put forth a little effort
into creating hiking routes that will take you in different directions and
around a variety of the many blocks.
However, there are a
couple of things you need to know about taking Fido for walks on paved surfaces.
First, if they are a puppy or have very little
experience walking on pavement, you need
to give their paws time to build up a layer of callus. Second, during the
summer months, the pavement can become hot
enough to cause burns, so exercise caution when heading out for your daily walks.
How many greenways are there in Ella Colemans?
Like most of the smaller neighborhoods in this part of Daytona,
there is very little in the way of green space in the immediate vicinity. But just
over a block away, there is a wide expanse
of grass along the west bank of the Halifax River. Along with this, there is a walking
trail that runs along the bank for you to put to good use.
If you are looking for something a little more
challenging and, it's just a short drive to the
Tiger Bay State Forest and Tomoka Wildlife Management Area (WMA). With over
30,000 acres full of trails, picnic areas, and dense woods to wander around in,
the two of you should be able to find all kinds of fun to get into.
Do keep in mind that the entire area is full
of wildlife including black bears, bald eagle, herons, white-tailed deer, bobcats,
and the ever-popular alligator. Exercise caution when wandering in these wooded areas.
