Wag! Walkers know Trail s End
The community of Trail's End sits along the Martin Andersen
Beachline Expressway, the causeway that takes thousands of people to Port Canaveral
to start their cruises every month. This a bustling area of the city and you can
count on traffic noise virtually around the clock. The houses in the region are typical
of suburbia with modest yards that give you just enough room to play with your
dog.
While the traffic noise might be a bit of a pain in the neck,
most people don’t mind being just down the street from a Walmart Supercenter where you can buy just about anything your family needs,
including food and treats for your canine companion. Along the way to Walmart, there is a Publix supermarket and a few
restaurants nearby as well. Although you can't take your dog on the beaches of
Cape Canaveral, they are a twenty-minute drive over the causeway.
What is the terrain like in Trail s End?
As one of the newer subdivisions, Trail's End has sidewalks running
along both sides of all roads in the neighborhood for you and your dog to walk
on. Most of the roads end in cul-de-sacs, which cuts down on any type of thru-traffic. This doesn't mean there isn't any traffic, but it's limited to those
on your street during rush hours and residents of any nearby communities, for the most part.
The way the sidewalks are set up, you and your pup can virtually
loop the entire community and rarely have to deal with cars. The ground here is
quite flat, so you may find you need to substitute distance for hills if that
is what you and your dog have been used to walking on. Thankfully, when you add
in the neighboring communities, you have endless choices when it comes to selecting which way to go
each time you set out for your daily long walk.
How many greenways are there in Trail s End?
The one thing you aren't going to find in Trail's End
is any type of usable green space. If you want a park to play in with your dog,
you'll have to drive to find them. Luckily, there are two dog parks
within a twenty minutes commute from your home. To the north in Port St. John is the Fay Lake
Wilderness Park and Dog Park. This park features two of the largest dog runs in
the area with water for the pups and shade to sit under. There is also a
hiking trail the two of you can follow to Fay Lake and along the shore.
To the south on Pluckebaum Road, there is a large lake with
plenty of grass around it, a trail to walk on, and most importantly, the
Barks and Recreation dog park. Inside this aptly named park are two areas
for small and large dogs, water fountains for thirst pups, and plenty of shade for
everyone to enjoy.
