Wag! Walkers know Lancelot Jacques
The funny thing about Lancelot Jacques is that it is literally
marked by a parking lot on the corner of Delannoy Avenue and West King Street, one block
east of Historic Downtown Cocoa. However, just because the map shows a parking lot doesn’t mean people don't live in the many nearby apartments and condos. Living
in one of these units puts you close to the Indian River and the causeway that
goes over to Merritt Island and then to Cocoa Beach.
Living in the downtown area puts you close to a variety of
small shops, businesses, bars, and restaurants. Within a ten-minute drive, you will
find at least one Publix Supermarket where you can stock the fridge and the bin
you keep your dog's food in. The causeway can have you and your pooch on the
beach in less than half an hour unless traffic is completely insane and the nearest
pet supply store, MYDOGSWAG, is only a few blocks away on the corner of Center Street and Ridgeway Avenue.
What is the terrain like in Lancelot Jacques?
This area of town is, unfortunately, heavily paved with parking lots with West King Street, a bustling highway, running alongside
you. Because you live in the downtown area of the city, you and your dog are likely
to encounter significant traffic during business hours. The traffic gets really
hectic during both morning and evening rush hours and when the cruise ships
dock after they have taken their passengers out for their cruise.
While there are sidewalks in most of the areas around Lancelot
Jacques, they tend to be full of people during the day. If your dog is well-trained
to heel, you can walk along them in relative safety, providing you keep your pooch on a short leash. The good news is that if you walk south on Delannoy Avenue, it quickly
leads to Taylor Park, which is part of a three-park amalgamation and a much
better place to go for your daily walks.
How many greenways are there in Lancelot Jacques?
Taylor Park is wonderful place to take the kids as there is a playground buried
in the shade of the trees covering the park. The park also sports public
restrooms which seem to be very well kept. It is also home to the City of Cocoa
Civic Center.
Next door is Cocoa Riverfront Park, a vast area of grass
where various events are held throughout the year inside the circle created by
the covered areas used by vendors during certain events. There is a small splash
pad for the kids that is open during the warmest months of the year and a boardwalk along the river's edge.
Lee Wenner Park also sits on the waterfront which, since it
has a large multilane public boat ramp, is probably a good thing. There is
extended parking for those with boat trailers, public restrooms, a fishing dock
jutting out into the river, and plenty more grass for you and your dog to make
good use of.
