Wag! Walkers know College Green Estates
College Green Estates is a vast residential community tucked
into the corner of SR-501. This is a well-established working
family neighborhood with plenty of trees and sidewalks. To the west is a vast
area of dense woods where you might find more than a few trails to take your
dog out for walks in the shade. There is also a large lake to the south separating this
area from the campus of Eastern Florida State College.
Shopping for groceries and essentials couldn’t be easier! You
can choose between an ALDIs, the Walmart Supercenter, or the Publix in Cocoa
Commons. In at least two of these stores, you should be able to find plenty of dog
foods to choose from, along with treats and toys. You can take your walks over to
the Taco Bell with your dog or down on the
southern end to the Dunkin Donuts. Anything else you are likely to need will
require a short trip into the heart of Cocoa.
What is the terrain like in College Green Estates?
College Green Estates is a huge family community with plenty
of sidewalks for you and your pooch to use for your walks. As you might expect,
there is a lot of traffic on the roads during the morning and evening
rush hours. The best thing you can do is to figure
out when these times are and avoid going for walks at those hours.
Living in Florida means dealing with months of hot weather. During the heat of the day is not the best time
to take your dog out due to the heat that can cause uncomfortable conditions for your furry friend. The flat terrain will make things a little easier for pups of all mobility levels, but you'll still want to exercise some degree of caution because of the pavement which can grow to incredibly high temperatures in the right conditions. Keep some water handy during your daily excursions to combat the muggy atmosphere.
How many greenways are there in College Green Estates?
While there aren't any parks within College Green Estates,
there is a vast area of woods to the west with a lake in the center of it. The
two of you can spend hours hiking through, enjoying a walk in the shade
provided by the trees. One thing to keep in mind is that this vast area of
woods is home to a variety of animals and birds. However, you may also come across black bears
and alligators who call the area home and are not friendly. If you see any, turn
and quietly walk away and, no matter how tempting it might be, never feed any of
the wildlife.
At the southern end of College Green Estates is Travis Park, where you will find a small parking lot, a volleyball
court, and the lake. There is a walkway you and your pup can use and the trail around the lake makes for a fun and peaceful
walk.
