Wag! Walkers know Carleton Terrace
Carleton Terrace is a small neighborhood sandwiched between
Indian River Road and the Indian River itself. As you might expect with riverfront
property, the houses are quite large and luxurious. Each has its own private
dock out in the water for fishing and tying up the family boat. To the west is
a large residential area and then US-1, which happens to be the first U.S. highway to run down the entire coastline of the nation.
US-1 is home to a wide range of businesses and the Cocoa Marketplace, right across the street from the neighborhood. This is a great flea
and farmers market where you can find a little bit of everything among the more
than 150 vendor stalls. For your more essential needs, there is a Walmart Supercenter five-minutes from your doorstep where you can find everything you and
your family need, including the one with the waggly tail.
What is the terrain like in Carleton Terrace?
The neighborhood sits at the south end of Indian River Road where
it connects to McFarland and Coquina Drives. Coquina Drive goes out to US-1 which, as you can imagine, makes this three-way intersection a busy place during the
morning and evening rush hours. Although the terrain here is flat and you can see
people coming, you and your pup might be wise to avoid this area during rush
hour as it might not be safe.
Thankfully, there are sidewalks for you and your dog. Be
sure you make good use of them to help keep you safe from traffic. There is a grass berm between the sidewalks
and the roads for your dog to use when the pavement is too hot for their paw pads.
The best time of day to go for walks is early in the morning.
Try to get out before rush hour stars when there is no traffic and the air is
fresh, cool, and clean.
How many greenways are there in Carleton Terrace?
When it comes to green spaces, this part of town comes up a bit
short on anything within walking distance. If you head north on Indian
River Road, there is a wide berm of grass along the riverbank that runs north for
miles. Alternatively, if you go over to the west side of
US-1 and out on Michigan Avenue, there is a road to your left where many dog walkers will park along the dirt trail. From here, you and your pooch
can hike for miles around the two lakes next to I-95.
If your pooch is like most, they would probably do just
about anything for a chance to go somewhere they can play off-leash. It's only a ten-minute drive from Carleton Terrace to the Barks and
Recreation dog park on Pluckebaum Road. The park has zones for large and small
dogs to run around and have plenty of fun while you sit in the shade, making
your pup's dreams come true!
