Wag! Walkers know Venetian Way
Venetian Way is large waterfront community of single-family
homes sitting along North Banana River Boulevard and close to the intersection with the West Cocoa
Beach Causeway. The majority of homes in the neighborhood
sit on man made canals that feed into the Banana
River. Many have fishing and boat docks and all are large in size. Most of the homes have plenty of
space for a dog to run around in, even those with swimming pools in their
backyards.
Living this close to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway puts you
within walking distance of the central shopping district on the peninsula. On
the south side of the street, there is a
Winn-Dixie Supermarket where you can stock up on food for everyone in your
family, even the one with the waggly tail. There are several restaurants in the
area and, for the coffee lovers at the corner
of the West Cocoa Beach Causeway and North Banana River Boulevard,
there is a Starbucks.
What is the terrain like in Venetian Way?
Most of the roads within Venetian Way end in cul-de-sacs
with the exception of Dorset Drive. This is a working community which means that traffic will be bustling during the morning and afternoon
rush hours. On top of this, during the school year,
there are plenty of yellow school buses running as well. To make matters worse,
most of the streets do not have sidewalks for you and your dog to walk on. Luckily, the terrain is, at least, flat and easy to navigate, no matter where you happen to be strolling.
To keep you safe, plan your walks for
early in the morning before the rest of the world starts waking up or shortly
after the last school bus has come through. Be sure you use a
short leash for these walks as this type of leash
will give you more control over your dog. You can also use the sidewalk on the east side of North Banana
River Boulevard to add more distance.
How many greenways are there in Venetian Way?
There is a vast area of open ground at the north end of the
community with a boat ramp and plenty of wide-open space for you to walk your
dog around. However, the nearest parks are a short drive away, as is the
beach. The beach offers you and your dog plenty of room to hike. You can go for
miles in either direction in the soft sand or stroll down the wet sand for a
relaxing jaunt. During the summer months, be sure you take time to go
for a swim. Your dog is sure to enjoy the chance to wash off the dust and
fleas!
To the south,
there is the Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park, a vast, 32,000 square foot facility with
separate areas for large and small breeds. Each has a water hose for the dogs
and plenty of chairs for you and other dog owners to relax on while your pups run off and have fun.
