Wag! Walkers know Sunset Cove
Sunset Cove is an upscale riverfront community between 9th
Street and 11th Street along Brevard Avenue. The majority of the houses sit on both sides
of Cove View Court which is a road ending in a cul-de-sac. There are a few more on Harbor Circle. There
is one small lake and those homes on the
river have boat docks that can also be used
for fishing. If you own an ocean-worthy boat,
you can even cruise from the area to Port Canaveral!
There are several shops, including two grocery stores along South Orlando Avenue, close to the intersection with the Minuteman Causeway that carry
the basic essentials. If you need more,
then a trip north to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway is in order. Here, you will find
the Bealls Outlet Center and a Winn-Dixie supermarket in a small shopping center
along with several local and chain restaurants in the surrounding area.
What is the terrain like in Sunset Cove?
Most of Sunset Cove is set
on a tranquil cul-de-sac. The only traffic you must deal with during the week
is from those going to or coming from work. During the school
year, you will also have the school buses
to deal with twice a day. This is one of
the few neighborhoods in town with flat, easy-to-manage sidewalks that run along both sides of the
road, making it safe and easy to get around.
You and your dog can walk for miles along South Brevard, but you
must keep your dog on a short leash to keep
them safe from traffic and pedestrians. If the two of you must walk near other people,
do your best to give them room to walk past you safely. Heading out of this region can easily take you to one of the busier routes in the region, so double check your walking plans to ensure that you and your dog are walking in the best areas.
How many greenways are there in Sunset Cove?
The two of you can use the grass around the lake for short walks
and playtime, but there is also a public parking lot and beach access at the east end of South 10th Street. Dogs are permitted
on the beaches from 6 to 10 AM and 5 to 7PM, so you can enjoy some of the sandy terrain during these hours. The two of you can walk for miles in either direction while
you are enjoying the salty tang of fresh breezes blowing in off the Atlantic. Your
dog must be on a leash if the two of you are going to be in this area.
The city also has a public dog park which is part of the
Lori Wilson Park. It offers almost an acre
of fenced-in shady play space for your dog to run around in off-leash. There is
water for the dogs and plenty of seating for dog owners to use!
