Wag! Walkers know River Sunset
River Sunset is a golf-course community that sits on the same island as Cocoa Beach Country Club and Golf Course. Most
of the homes are settled along the waterfront with one section jutting out into the
course itself. The view from the homes along
the water is spectacular with boats
and the occasional dolphin to watch in the water. Remember that just because
you live on a golf course covering hundreds of acres of grass doesn’t mean you
can take your dog walking there! The greens are, unfortunately, off-limits to canine companions.
For shopping, you will find a local grocery store and several restaurants worth checking out. There is enough here for those
last-minute needs if you can find what you need without having to drive
north to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. Along
this stretch of road, there are several
big box stores and a Winn-Dixie supermarket where you should be able to find most
of the top brands of dog food for your pooch.
What is the terrain like in River Sunset?
Living out an island in the midst
of the Banana River offers you and your family a relatively tranquil life.
Country Club Road is the only way in or out of the neighborhood and it ends in a cul- de-sac. As for vehicular
traffic, you may see a little during the morning and afternoon rush hours, but
the rest of the day is very quiet along these relatively flat roads. You shouldn't have any trouble navigating the area as there are no steep hills to wander up or down with your pooch.
During the school year, not only do you have to deal with the
school buses that come through, but also the traffic that both Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior
High and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School bring along the two-lane Minuteman
Causeway. The one thing missing is sidewalks
for you and your dog to use. To minimize your risks,
try getting out early in the morning before traffic builds.
How many greenways are there in River Sunset?
Unfortunately for those who live right next to or inside of the golf course, you are surrounded by grass that your dog
cannot use! There are a few alternatives to the acreage that the golf course takes up, but most require a bit of a commute down one of the main roadways to reach them.
The nearest dog park is only a few minutes north on A1A. The
Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park is a huge facility covering over 30,000 square feet
of shade trees and grass for your dog to run around off-leash. The park is divided into three sections: one for big
dogs, one for small dogs, and an entrance area where there is a hose and rinse
station to wash the dust off and cool your playful pooch down after an hour or two of play
time. Just remember to clean up after your pet to be courteous to other park users!
