The one thing that the Port View Townhomes don't have is a
direct view of the cruise line ports. You
can, however, watch the massive cruise ships coming and going all year long! At
the same time, you have an excellent view of the beach and the Atlantic coast from
your townhome while Cherie Down Park where you and your dog can go to exercise is
right across the street.
While you won't find much in the way of shops and restaurants
along Ridgewood, on the other side of the peninsula, North Atlantic Avenue has plenty
of both, especially as you get closer to Cocoa Beach. Among the various stores
is a Publix Supermarket where you can stock up on necessities and food for your
entire family, including the one with floppy ears. If you need more shopping amenities, Merritt Island Walmart Supercenter is on the East Merritt Island Causeway for your convenience.
What is the terrain like in Port View Townhomes?
With a park at one end of Presidential Court and a beach access
parking lot on the other end, traffic during the day here is quite steady. Unfortunately, you can't take your dog on the beach in Cape Canaveral, which leaves
you no choice but to either walk up or down Ridgewood Avenue using the sidewalks
or crossing this bustling road and walking your dog in the residential areas on
the other side.
While traffic is generally hectic during rush hours, it does
tend to quiet down in the residential areas during the day. Most of the
streets have sidewalks for the two of you to use, but if you have to walk on
the roads, be sure you walk facing the traffic.
With Cape View Elementary School across the street, you are
likely to encounter lots of kids walking to and from school. Walking your dog
during these times could be a slow process, but you can find other places to stroll if it's a large issue.
How many greenways are there in Port View Townhomes?
With the beaches off limits, the city allows dogs in all parks, providing they are on a leash and their owner cleans up after them. On the
other side of Washington Avenue is Cherie Down Park, a modestly sized park where you and your dog will find plenty of room
to stretch your legs and get in some much-needed exercise.
Four and a half miles
south on A1A is the Cocoa Beach Public Dog Park. This is a large fenced-in dog park with sections for both small dogs
and large breeds to play in. Each section
has a water hose for your dog to drink from, lots of shade trees, and
plenty of seating in the shade for dog owners to relax on while their pups run around off-leash and have fun. The park does not have any
supervision, so you must keep an eye on your pooch and be ready to step in if
there is trouble.
